Disney Remake 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
« on: January 10, 2009, 09:49:26 AM »
Just saw this on the web:

McG will direct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo for Disney.

The 1954 original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was the first live-action film made by Walt Disney and became the second-highest grossing film that year, also winning three Oscars. The new version, written by Bill Marsilli, will be an origin story of Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. The characters come from the Jules Verne novel. The project is being fast tracked with hopes of making the movie this year.

McG most recently directed Terminator: Salvation which Warners will release in May.

Sounds interesting, just think of the movie tie-in toys... ;D

Yeah oh yeah. Cannot get too excited yet though as there are too many things that can get in the way. Scale, naff design or even like in the case of the "Journey to the centre of the earth" adaptation I watched on telly recently - no machine at all!!!

Cant see James Mason or Herbert Lom being in a fit condition to play Nemo either

oh dear... an origin story was touted a few years back, where Nemo is a southern plantation owner or something... all very meh and hollywood and ignoring exactly what Verne created so perfectly...

Verne's book never had a machine... iirc, it was a hike into an Icelandic volcano... Burroughs At The Earths Core had a machine if memory serves...
