Adepticon 2016 Dacian & Sarmatian force
« on: May 10, 2016, 03:47:53 AM »
Way back in the beginning of June 2015 I pulled my Warlord Dacian and Sarmatian forces out of storage and began painting for an ancients campaign my club had started.
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=80042.0

I sent off two warband units to be painted by Pictors Studio to give me a jump on the army and dug into painting the rest. Along the way I added more warbands and 34 more horse with the new idea of hosting a game at Adepticon in April 2016.  I painted & based pretty much up to the week of the con but I did finish. Finally got a chance to go back and take some pictures. Here is the first group:

Old Glory Archers

Warlord Celt Archers & skirmishers

Old Glory Falx Men and command

Always good to see more Dacians.  Nice to see the Old Glory Command Group - used Warlord's Decebalus for mine but am still hoping to find a mounted version.......

Nice looking units.  :)
And always great to see some decent pictures of the Old Glory stuff. (If only they had pictures like this on their site ...)

In your other thread I have seen that you have the Sarmatians from Warlord; how well do these size with with other manufacturers?

They look a lot better painted though I would think they could get better examples than mine for their catalog. :)

I don't have a lot to compare it to as this was my first Ancients army and the horse is all Warlord with a few Aventine Miniatures for the command. I loved the detail on the Aventine command figures. The Warlord Sarmatian is on the left.

I will try to get the Sarmatian's force up as soon as I repair some travel damage.

Who IS "the Sarmatian"?
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

Thanks for that comparison shot.

Looks like the Warlord looks smaller than the Aventine one. Maybe it's closer to Foundry or Old Glory which would be good news for me   8)

Means that I can use the Warlord Sarmatians for my barbarian armies  >:D

Trust me, any picture is better than the ones that are currently up on the Old Glory website.

I will finish off the Dacian pictures. I painted two warbands to bring me to 4 for the army.

I still have a "Noble" box on the shelf but that will wait for awhile.

Damn, you're really tempting me with these Dacians.
And I can't afford yet another project  ;D

Time for the Sarmatian horse army.  It seemed like a there lot more of them when I was painting.

The 48 Cataphracts because well, you just can't have enough Cataphracts.
