The wizkids starwars rules are OK actually, a bit simplistic but they work. THey support multi player battles well, so it makes a good social drinking kind of game.

I second that - and they are easily transformed to non-grid boards. I do not like that you are able to shoot straight through your own models, though.... But that's fixable  ;)

Going way back, late 1980s when the true 25mm Star Wars figures were available from West End Games there was a tabletop battles set of rules that went alongside the Star Wars RPG.


Yes, called Star Wars Miniatures Battles.  It was an excellent rules set and I had a lot of fun with it.  The "heroes" were pretty detailed, and, even without being familiar with the RPG you could use them to do all kinds of neat things.  Very versatile for scenerio battles...but troops didn't get any "special abilities".  For example, a Wookie and an Ewok could be statistically the same if you designed them that way (although one would assume that you would design a Wookie to be much stronger...but the fact of the matter is that all troops could be potenntially the same if you decided to build them that way).
