 Buildings look good.

Set-up is really taking shape now.

Hi everyone.

I've recently bought quite a few building sets from Knights Of Dice.

Some of these are the "blanks" from the TABULA RASA range.

Now the idea behind these, is that the end-user can modify and add to suit individual taste and needs.

The kits are well made and easy to assemble - a bit on the small side scalewise - But workable!

One small bit, did bother me a great deal - the stairs - the steps are only about 3mm deep! basicaly making the stairs more of a ramp.

So, I set out to fix this in a "simple" manner...

First.

Sort out the steps or tiles and mark them, (in this case, I've marked them 1-16 and B for the bottom or base step).

Second.

Change the tiles order as follows: 2, 1, 4, 3, 6, 5, 8, 7, 10, 9, 12, 11, 14, 13, 16, 15, B

Third.

Starting with B and moving backwards, assemble the stair - Note the 3mm gap behind B.

The end result, should look like this...

Giving you a more realistic looking and much more playable stair, by allowing the model base to rest between the steps.

I hope this small tutorial will help you in getting the most, out of an already very cool set.

That is a great fix indeed! 8)

This should be stickied, as it will undoubtedly be useful for a great many fellow builders.

One thing I realized though; MDF buildings are heavy to begin with, but one of those stairs is just one solid block of material!  :o  It does help minimizing movement of the building during play I reckon though... ::)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Yes even the smaller buildings seems to gain considerable weight during the build. But like you stated, makes them more solid on the table ;)

That stairs idea is brilliant.  Also in the case of scratchbuilders who want to recreate it, I reckon you could achieve a much more lightweight equivalent by using EPVC instead of MDF.  :)

Quick update - with pictures!

Did a ton of groundwork on the table last night - mainly covering the bases with cork and sorting out gubbins for the walls (fuse boxes, A/C etc.) Also got a nice surprice from a mate, in the form of 1/48 scale brick wall sections from Tamiya - These have been used to "upgrade" the low walls on, one of the Tabula Rasa Compounds and given it a cool look - I will definitely get more of this kit, as it really adds character, and once a bit of texture paint hits the MDF, it will look really nice.

The A/C vents are from Multiversegaming - It came with two sizes, the smaller ones are perfect, the larger one are...well large!

BUT...They will do nicely as a reinforced window!

Skips from KoD - A bit large, but workable - also gives a cool way to reach the roofs.

Really like how this is coming together! Going to be a great board once it's all done.  :)

Set Blasters to erm...Paint!

Time for some paint, or well sort of paint...

I've given the bases and walls a lick of texture paint - It came out a bit too thick at places, so I left a few open spots, that was later sprayed with a mix of "effect" sprays (terracotta and granite).

Next up is the initial black undercoat, mostly to make it easier for me to see what I'm doing, when its time for detailing.

...BTW here is a few random shots of the 'Safehouse' mods - I really love the Tamiya barricade set!

FLASH MESSAGE!
If all goes to plan - I'll be attending Crisis Antwerp 2016 along with the Spectre Crew, better get cracking!!

That is an amazing setup!

Please do stop by our (the non-GW gamers in DK) small annual gathering late November in Odense if you ever find the time.

Its alive...ALIVE!!
« Reply #28 on: August 18, 2016, 12:40:03 PM »
Yup, still alive, still building...

Sorry for the low-update, but got stuck in RL... and completely forgot to take pictures..

But

To remedy I'll be dropping a MOAB worth of pictures in this update ;)

Main progress has been halted waiting for some corrugated plastics and styrene rods - Got the overall layout down, but may change one of the buildings as its not really how I wanted it.

Also changed the containers - the new ones are a tad smaller, but looks better IMO. Also I've got a ton of refuse bags and barrels from Spectre incoming - plan is to make most of the scatter/debris into small/medium clusters, that can be moved and rearranged as needed.

And now; Standby for drop in 3... 2... 1...

Boom!

Sorry for the loooong post here is a potato (9gag thing)
