Spectre table update - Its the final countdown!
« on: May 20, 2016, 06:19:37 PM »
Taking a break from the Jungle and going to town...

Start of my Spectre table - This will hopefully see lots of action and travel to different clubs and events in Denmark, to showcase the game and just have fun! Theme will be a sort of mashup of Middle Eastern/North Africa and Central America. Bought a heap of buildings from Knights Of Dice and SG2.
The base of the table is a 100x100 (cm) 6mm MDF, that is bevelled at the edges, so that it might be used on top of our existing gaming table.

The road itself is non-movable, but all other table features will be, for ease of travel and a degree of modularity. The idea being that I can always swap 2-3 buildings or terrain features and thereby change the overall "feel" of the board.

Still lots of work to be done, more gutter debris and of course, a slap of paint!

The "back edge" of the sidewalk is about 9mm and the plan is for the buildings to be placed on a sort of standard MDF slap, and then kitted out with urban debris, (trashbins, refuse bags, pallets, barrels and other crap).

Pictures - or it didn't happen!

Terrific work on the weathered roadwork.

Thank you.

The roads BTW are 2mm cork sheets that has been torn and then glued to a second 2mm sheet.

This creates IMO a cool and realistic asphalt look, that can be cut for things like drains and potholes. Once a bit more gutter debris is added, the roads will be painted almost black, then a few salt weathered stencils, then "dust" the whole thing with weathering powder to bind the road together and lastly, I will add some small grass tufts here and there.

I will try to take pictures during the process.

BRILLIANT! Your technique is innovative. Well done. Definitely storing that in the "how to" memory bank!

The look is very realistic. Reminds me of run-down American parking lots - just needs some weeds and a few shopping carts  lol

Aaaand Ker-splat!

...Or rather fssssh, some paint on the table at last!

Started of by base coating the table black, some of the cracks sort of opened, creating a cool effect.

The painting was done by masking of the various sections and then dusting the paint on - I could have used my airbrush for this, but...

1. It is a large plate.

2. The weather was too nice to lurk inside ;)

I think the end result is quite nice - Not sure what exact colour is used used on the pavement and road dusting... Can says "Grey" But its more of a Grey/Brown that sort of resembles Vallejo's "IDF Sinai Grey"  Luckily my local DIY store has bulks of it, since I will use these on the buildings too...

Main colours used:
Road - Black base with "grey" dusting.
Pavement - Black base, then "grey" coat.
Dirt - Black base, dark brown medium coat, then sand dusting.

Pictures!

Next on the list is getting some road stripes, more debris, some weathering powders and a little wash, and finally some tufts.

Oh and some metallic/rust on the manholes and drains...

Hopefully the last couple of buildings will arrive soon and the fun will really kick in!!

Enjoy!

Stripes and tufts!

Road is getting there - Did fuck up the masking a bit, but I'll blame on the underpaid town-authority ;)

Still needs a bit of weathering powder like the 40mm base shown for comparison - But more discreet, less is more and all that...

Lastly, I discovered that the manhole cover in the T-section is not center - It will drive my CDO nuts forever!! ;)

Those are magnificent! I love the effect you get from the 2mm cork sheet... (Now I just need to find some locally!)

Goooood morning Viet…err…everyone!

I finally got some time to pre-assemble the buildings for my Spectre demo table – Special thanks and shout-out to Byron at SG2creations for his stellar service and really cool MDF terrain.

The SG2 buildings will be joined by some Tabula Rasa structures from Knights Of Dice and a few containers from UrbanMammoth. All are very cool and really easy to work with.

The idea is to have a few different standard setups using this lot – for demo games at clubs and events and then use some heavily converted buildings from Knights Of Dice, Multiverse, TTCombat and others for games at home in our gaming room – The later buildings will hopefully be more detailed and therefore, less travel strong!

The overall layouts of the table is not completely set, as I still need to do a bit of Scenario tweaking, in that the different layouts will support the game mechanics that are in focus in the played scenario: Tactical/Stealth Movement, Direct Fire, Semi/Non-Permissive Environment etc.

The streets and alleys will eventually be filled with pallets, trash bins, refuse bags and other movable features that  will offer the player concealment and/or cover. This again to support the rules.

The theme I’m going for is a mash-up of the type of settlements you’d find in the suburbs of the Middle East/North Africa/Southern Balkans and Central America – And now heavily inspired by the upcoming game Ghost Recon: Wildlands!
Miles to go… miles to go…
