Sinewgrab, are you thinking of cannons that look more primitive? ...perhaps more ornate? Whatever happened to those two very large plastic dragon head cannons that you got from me a few years ago? I'm thinking that, although those are really huge, you could adapt those for main armament.

Otherwise looking for old Ottoman, Indian, Chinese, Fantasy, and Renaissance cannon might produce something that could be adapted for a ship. The Wargames Foundry medieval heavy bombard and bell bombard on this page might look suitably primitive:

The Outpost culverine has an interesting snake like wrap around the barrel:

There is a very ornate barrel on this Assault Group cannon:

You might want to check out the "Heavy Gun 17th Century" from Old Glory here:

Reaper made a "Dwarven War Cannon" with a dragon head:

And finally, Houston Naval Guns line at TVAG includes a "Dog Head" Heavy/Siege Gun, 68-pdr (WC-67):

Good list there, Warren, but I don't know if I want to go 'primitive' or just different.  I tend to drag these out most often in battles with the Washington crowd, so I would like to keep them mostly recognizable - otherwise, I can just dip into my pirate armies for old style cannon on naval carriages.

Still, a good resource list.  Oh, and you kept the Dragon headed Cannon from the Junk.

I kept the dragon headed cannons? Hmm, guess I'll have to look for those when I get home tonight.

Jeff W. has a 1:72 scale Rodman cannon (American Civil War vintage) from Reviresco, with some kind of round turntable. If that one would be of interest to you, I'll ask him if he intends to use it.

My awesome incredible sister got me one for my birthday and I'm currently assembling it. I also just bought the guns I need from TVAG. Any advice for painting it? I see from Sinewgrab's pics, the details such as decking still show through primer. Anything I should keep in mind if I want to keep those?

Haven't finished her yet - I was trying to use my airbrush, but I just cannot find the happy medium between coverage and not clogging, so I am going back to the brush.  More comfortable with it, and I need this lady up for a game in a week or so.

I'll let you know, though.

Okay, guys.  Here is the finished product.  Remember, I still believe that these ships are terrain, and thus do not get full on treatment.

One caveat to Fergal of Crossover.  GET RID OF THE PROPELLERS. I have broken those &^%$%ed blades off 4 times - I transport these regularly, and those propellers are nothing but trouble.  That is, I admit, the only issue I have with this kit.

Any spelling issues are caused by my third gin and tonic after a rough day at work.

All in all, this is a beautiful piece of kit, and well worth the cost.

That looks great!  I love the simple color scheme and the flags the most!  Very effective.  This is the first ship I've seen 'live in the wild', so it's pretty exciting.

I can definitely see where the props could be a weak point as far as durability.

If you are not paying close attention, you can snap them off walking past the ship - they stick out farther than any other piece.  I am seriously considering replacing them with acrylic disks.  Thanks for the compliment - I wanted to keep it simple, but definitely stand out from the Norwegian vessels I own.

IF I ever get the dingus together, I'm going to go with both; use magnets, and be able to swap disks for play, props for the out-of-harm's-way display. Now that I think on it, pop-off props MIGHT be survivable.

Must say, I DO get compliments on it only being a third done...

She looks good beside my other 'nefs.  This is how I am going to use her at Enfilade next weekend - the playing surface for my Pulp Alley game is just the ships - you fall off, you are gone.

I haven't finished painting the guns yet, so they are kind of missing.

WOW! Love it!  :-* :-*

It's cutting it close, but if you PM me your mailing address, I'll try to send you some special promo Fortune cards to give away at the convention.  :D

THANKS for playing and sharing Pulp Alley.
