The details may be over the top, but in a very good way! That lodge will look lived in, in a way that most wargame terrain never does. It kind of reminds me a bit of a thread on the post-apoc board from a few years ago (I think by Koyote), showing an old hangar/ survivor camp that was super detailed. This is similarly awesome.

Re: The Thread of Middle-Earth by Hammers, the grounds of the King's Huntsman
« Reply #136 on: December 07, 2022, 09:40:40 PM »
The base for the huntsmans lodge was cut from 10mm plywood and bevelled at the edges. I wanted cellars on the grounds in where the huntsman cures his meats so I built a mound ut of XLS. The masonry wall of the cellar and the paving in fron of it was irregular pieces of 5mm XLS sheet. These were textured and covered with a layer of glalc.

I then covered the base with a generous layer of Celluclay (tinted with woodstain, my method for this is previously described) and some sand sprinkled here and there on top of it. As you can see I left the outline of the lodge bare in case I get a hankering to do an interior in the future.

When dry I did the grass. I used sheets of tall grass, grass tufts (6 and 18 mm) and my home made mix of sand, pebbles, static grass and flock, which I use consistently for all Rohan projects.

And here's the result:

If you've seen my other projects exhibited here on LAF, you know I am a bit of a miniature naturalist. I OBVIOUSLY had to paint the quarry which Theoden King and his hunt sets out to skewer.

Like a solitary but mighty red stag...

...a rangle of fallow deer...

...the elusive white hart of the Firien wood...

...a sounder of boars of the Everholt...

...a bevy of pheasants...

...and finally a vice of coneys.

Very cool.  Nicely observed painting hammers.

While I was at it I painted other varmints surely to be found in the lands of Mark under the blessing of Theoden King:

Ermine, polecat, weasel and marten...

...beaver, blue heron and otter...

... and finaly the mighty headgehog (let's call him Sebastian).

As you can tell I have had quite a colleton of various animals (I have a habit of checking for anmals to add when I order fromvarious suppliers) and I am glad to hav had an opportunity to paint them. Only made a small dent in the lead pile, still plenty left.

How in the hell I will use them I do not know, but I am sure i will find some way to weasel them into the gameplay. :)

I have a few more raptors I could paint, so perhaps a aviary for Theoden King would not be out of place.

Excellent work on the scatter terrain and figures. Details like that really make a table stand out.

Wow! Great stuff mate. Especially the game dressing bits. Not something you see every day. It is these kinds of details that make world building tables. 👏🏻

Thanks, gents. A bit of imagination gone wild. I see a few of the money shots have not loaded. I will have to amend that tomorrow.

I seem to have missed this thread lately.
Impressive work there.   I love the lodge and all the accessories that go with it.  Very clever work on the butchered animals.

 :o :o

Amazing stuff, Hammers! Love those pheasants. Love the hobbit hole & cottage combo (that ground work!). Love it all!
