Didn't even think of that. In that fanstastic scene when he rides down the line of he loyal riders, chopping the spearheads off (to even the odds for the other side, surely, very sportsmanlike) he obviously uses his right hand.

Yes, I was just joking. :)

The shields, yes. I suppose it has more to do with practical film making concerns. I am curious how they were used with late Dark Age/Early Medieval cavalry.
