Flora and Fauna of Venus
« on: January 15, 2009, 03:35:39 PM »
The first survey of Venus by the Royal Geographical Society during the Belborough Expedition in February 1884 encountered creatures similar to those found on earth millions of years ago....

The first two dinosaurs found in a toy shop. The remaining ones are by HLBSC, the hunters are Copplestone.

"These creatures do not die like the bee after the first sting, but go on age after age, feeding on the blood of the living"  - Abraham Van Helsing

What did you use for the plants?

Top Trumps! Especially the stegosaurus (it's my particular favourite, but not for any particular reason). The flora is pretty nifty, too.

Froggy, unfortunately that waterline Nessie is no longer available. I have one too, and it is a lovely little toy. I think HLBSC still do an underwater version that goes on a flying base, but even that will be consigned to history at the end of March.

I'm not really into these Lost Worlds scenarios, but I love the "Monasaur of the Inner Sea" from Dragonblood:

Unfortunately, it's pretty pricey at $19.99.

What did you use for the plants?

They are plastic aquarium plants and also the sort you find at garden centres for flower arranging.

Yes, its a crying shame the HLBSC dinos will be extinct again  come march. :'(

Nice work Malamute :-*. I will crack on with encounter cards for these for the next game.

I have a nice toy shop triceratops painted that will fit in nicely with these, also some of the same raptors (I prefer your paint scheme so I may repaint them). On the unpainted side I have another HLBS  plesiosaur and a couple of their pterodactyls, also some unpainted 1/48 (?) scale plastic dinosaurs from the Natural History Museum.

BTW - how many of the raptors and pterodactyls do you have?

Nice terrain too :)

I have six raptors and two pterodactyls.

I also have a huge box of unpainted stuff, a T Rex Imperator(he's huge!) an Allosaurus, two dwarf Allosaurs, a triceratops, and other assorted beasties. Its unlikely I will get any more  of them painted before the game.

Those are great Nick!

Looks liek I will have to make an order with HLBSC before March after all. Keep putting it off, but I know they'll be gone if I don't do it soon.

I was bitten many years ago.  ;)  These are not new acquisitions, they have been hibernating in the loft for the last 5 or so years patiently awaiting an opportunity to come alive again. :D

Malamute,

Very nice paintjob and photos. It is an excellent work!

[However, since photos are clean do represent an earth type environment, please note that Venus has a dark full of turbulent clouds. Just to distinguish earth from Venus environment the try to change backdrop using a cloudy one. Beware no much blue hues there. More red/orange ones]

Anyhow your work is as excellent as ever (could do I say and more)

It also has a "day" cycle which takes longer than it's "year". That particular aspect, along with many others are being flatly ignored. That said, turbulent skies would look good.

I have quite a few of those dino's too, but I'm afraid none of mine are painted :( I promise to get some done for future Venus games, but no chance of adding to the pile for this one. I look forward to seeing them in person.
So many projects..... so little time.......

These are photographed against our bedroom walls which happen to be pale blue, whcih is great for everyday photos... I am not sure Mrs Malamute would be too impressed if I suggested changing it to Red/orange... lol lol
Must learn how to use Photshop one of these days for this kind of thing.. :)
