BUREAU OF OCCULT STUDIES AND EXPLORATION (B.O.O.S.E.)
The battle against the Forces of Unspeakable Horror is nothing new to the Europeans, ever since ancient times, there have been brave men and women willing to sacrifice both their lives and precious sanity against the Eldritch Menace! Due to the many wars across the continent, there has been very little cooperation and exchange of knowledge and practises. Until now that is...
When the League of Nations was formed in the aftermath of the Great War,which saw a Europe ravaged by unimaginable devastation and suffering, it was one man's vision that it would finally bring them all together against a common enemy.
Friedrich Weber, a Swiss national and a civil servant had encountered and survived some Unfathomable Experiences during the Great War, leading him to believe that there were far Darker and Sinister Forces at work than the next door neighbour. Tentatively and very carefully he reached out to several nationals of the founding members, amongst which he managed to find enough support and expert advice to covertly set up an international strike force and think tank. It was hidden under an umbrella of several non-functional bogus boards and a ton of dry German precise paperwork and it was named Bureau Of Occult Studies and Exploration, or B.O.O.S.E as the agents nicknamed it.
Slowly but steady they managed to pool their various resources and the methods for dealing with various threats against humanity as a whole. Each potential recruit is vetted as diligently as possible and an in-house psychic is giving a reading of the recruit, usually it's a psychometrist. The recruit, after being found suitable, is then approached and offered a job, which they are entirely free to decline if they should wish to do so.
All personnel is given a basic training in personal protection and handling of information. Depending on what they are deemed suitable for, additional training is provided as deemed necessary. Friedrich Weber is referred to as 'Number One', as it all started with him and he is overseeing the bureau, but running it in the efficient day-to-day business is the Frenchman Pascal Gautier, a former police inspector from Marseilles.
Now, in 193_, all the hard work has paid off. The bureau employs many with varied skill sets, some are useful for uncovering Dark Knowledge in ancient tomes or being consulted upon when various specialised knowledge is needed, others are more suitable for a... more hands on approach shall we say, such as the group led by the Swedish adventurer Fredrik Falk, including the German accountant and graduate of the military academy at Heidelberg, Gerhard Shroedinger, the Chinese kung fu expert Sun Feng and the Dutch archeologist Lorraine de Witt.
