'A Gentleman's War'
« on: 14 June 2016, 07:42:08 PM »
42mm shiny toy soldiers striding manfully forth on the field of battle! Why yes, the building's more post apocalyptic than 1890s, but it serves as a ruined factory. Pictures by the excellent Dan Foley from his blog, here:

Dan and Nate's combined force of, erm, Canadians, Americans, Spanish, Argentines and Hawaiians was unable to break through the freshly painted French forces. A glorious cavalry charge through the Hawaiian skirmishers hit a disordered Canadian unit, and punctured the centre. Vive la France!

Indeed, although we don't shoot at the figures with little cannon. Paint jobs, you understand --

I have set up a four way game for next week using my Shiny Toy Soldiers Schleswig-Holstine figures... I haven't had them out for a while...

I will let you know how things went...

All the best   Aly

Fantastic stuff, Aly.

I need to make some proper toy soldier-style hills. I'm less inclined towards the square Wellsian hills than terraced hills like the ones I made from foam ceiling tiles when I was twelve, based on - I assume - something Don Featherstone had in one of his books.

Peter Young just used magazines as hills, which never impressed me.

A new, improved, better-explained version of the rules is ready. I will put them up on the Yahoo group, and also send you a set directly.

After a slight delay we had our shiny game...
We used the original rules...printer problems got in the way of things...
A very enjoyable game was had by all...
The Danes managed to be a bit uncoordinated and the Germans made excellent use of group movement and a good run of cards...
We experimented with rockets... Artillery range but only counting 2 crew... any hit whether it caused a casualty or not caused disruption...
