But let's start with some explanations/pictures of the work about the Keelboat :
This work was made in a couple of hours only.  :D

1) The boat hull is made with expanded polystyren and balsa wood for the deck.
2) The deck is sculpted as wood with the tip of a pencil. Nails on the deck are made with a needle.
3) The cabin is made of balsa and some matches.

4) The expanded hull is protected by cardboard strip (sculpted as wood planks with a cutter), glue and fixed with sewing pins.

5) The mast is made with a barbecue stick. The sails is a paper handkerchief roll over and fixed on the mast with thin wire.

6) When all is build, i spray an undercoat special for plastic to protect the wood and his reaction with the paint.

and you get this :

Cheers
Eric

There is an old Kirk Douglas film with a keelboat:

Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Exact and the movie is about the life and the adventures of a keelboat team.

I made a gun that could be place every where on my boats.
It's basde on a 30yw gun from plastic 1/72 REVELL and fixed on a nail as axe.

here on the flatboat :

2nd step : filling the river with water

I'm trying to figure out how to do a stream, too. I have latex ones I bought from Miniature World Maker years ago. However, I'd like to make more so I can make the river longer (or more than one on the table).

Has anyone tried using the acrylic light panels? If I could figure out how to cut them easily (I'm not Mr. Tool Guy), I'd like to try that...

Your river looks good, Eric!

Oh yes, water.
Got to have it to float the boat. ;)
I like your start.
I have tried different things for rivers.
Still not happy with what I have.
Nice to see others ideas.

i built mine directly on the map/carpet.

i clear off the green texture with a heat gun or a grinder. I know it's heavy tools for modelling but very very efficient  lol lol lol

The heat gun dissolve the green so you can clear off all the grass.
The grinder plane the grass but could dangerous for the support of the map/carpet because you can make holes in if you don't care.
The water is made with floor glue mixed with silicone (like Pattex one). This mix is essential if you don't want to see your glue crack when drying. The river is now flexible.
I put blue color in the final mix to get an uniform undercoat.
When dry, i dry brush blue paint, then white.
i make the brillant look of the river with glue-varnish. Severals pass are needed to give a water look !

and now , i can roll the map/carpet for transportation.  o_o

that's magic !

cheers
Eric
