I love this - I've wanted to do a science fantasy/black powder/Nausicaa project in 6mm for ages, and like you I'd want it to be low figure count (relatively speaking) - Exactly why I like Horizon Wars too funnily enough.

For rules, I was going to use Mayhem https://bombshell-games.com/mayhem/ and reskin the ranged weapons (so the crossbows become rifles etc.)

Wicked ideas here. I'm currently battling man-flu and have been left to my own devices, I'm inspired to put Nausicaa on!

There's an expantion for Horizon Wars that covers beasties like Xenomorphs, Kaiju and even dragons, it's still in Beta you can download it here http://www.precinctomega.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/160616-hw-biowar.pdf

The 'gun beasts' troop type does add a load of flexibility actually as it let's you represent melee focussed infantry too.

Oh yes I'm quite active on the HW facebook group myself.  :D You'll notice the tank on there as well. The Biowar rules can use some finetuning (already posted some questions on that) but they are indeed exactly what I'm planing to use for the bugs. But I'm going to try and focus on the humans first. I think I'd be happier to have on complete force rather then two half finished ones.  :D

Talking about 6mm bugs and Miyazaki, it's only just clicked with me: I wonder if he's an influence on the old Epic Tyranid assault spawn...

I'm sure that over the years they have been part of the design inspiration for sure. In fact I think the idea that the "top" armor plate it somewhere behind the head, overlapping to both sides is something the Nids also do these days, might be spawned by ghibli.

Meanwhile I am concluding I can spend an entire evening on something a few cm. to a side when working on a 6mm building.  lol Ah well, I guess a walled farm is quite a large building.

Thanks David!

New stuff should be up soon, I received a bunch of samples from eureka along with some unrelated unreleased stuff I'm helping on. In any case I now have a bunch of stuff to try and paint, and also help with the scale of terrain.  lol

I also slapped some paint on the tank. Its been bloody hot (by my standard) over here and I find it uncomfortable to sit hunched over a paint station in this weather but I managed to get at least some basic colours on the tank. Hopefully I will finish a few more pieces of terrain soon so I can use those as backdrop for pictures.

Thanks guys, means a lot coming from you.  :)

Now that I'm looking at the pictures I remember that I was considering doing a red and white stripes on the sides like some ww1 tanks. Might bring a spot of colour to the thing. But I'm not sure if its very Miyazaki. What does my panel of judges say?  :D

go for it. If it does not work out, print another. That is one of the upsides about this tech.

Point

I might want to wait until I have a good idea for national colours. That off pink and pale yellow is still horrible. Putting it next to the infantry I instantly had an impulse to add a flag to the rear, but I need a colour scheme for that.  o_o

I also now remember one of the big differences between howl the movie and the book, the book doesn't focus on the war at all.  lol Still even the first few chapters of the book explain a lot of minor details and plot points that make howl more logical.

Awesome idea.

Now the concept of a 6mm FF-style force is running through my head, though.

Chocobo-knights facing off against clockwerk goblin mechs.
