LAF Oldhammer 40K Thread
« on: June 28, 2016, 06:07:09 PM »
I don't know if this is something people would be interested in, so this is simply a feeler...how about a single thread for the Oldhammer folks who are poking around in the old RT/2nd ed. 40K stuff?  It'd be nice to keep it all in one place where we could feed off the encouragement of others and maybe share resources.

I'd like that!

Asside from Necromunda I haven't done much with my oldhammer recently, but it's a subject I love.  I could use the inspiration to get back to painting my backlog of squats.

I don't have much interest in the early editions of 40k, but sets like ITEN and Warpath really appeal to me as fast-and-easy ways to get my early-grimdark fix.

Yeah, I've not really narrowed down where my rapidly expanding Eldar army will go...or what rules I'll be using, but it's the story and the models that I'm really enjoying.  If people wish I can produce a link to single threads etc.

Sounds like a solid idea to me. Always interested in inspiration, watching The Art of Gothic on BBC iplayer right now.

I'd be interested in seeing what other people have been up to in the Rogue Trader Universe.

My interpretation/background is based on the fringes of the Imperium, among the long mined out and abandoned planets that give home to pirates, renegades and outlaws, rather than the black and white Humanity Versus Everything that 40k evolved into. There are certainly very few marines in my games, for a start.

Whenever I manage to get a game, I tend to use a mostly-2nd Ed oriented skirmish system, with RT fluff and tips here and there. I think it has the right narrative component while keeping it playable. All I've been doing in recent (and not so recent) times is my urban setting with all kind of civilians and non-combatants to fill in. I have a couple of scenarios in mind that I think might be fun, involving mobs of people and Arbites, stuff like that.
I also have interest in other people's experiences with different systems. I've seen that Pulp Alley has become rather popular, but haven't tried it. The same about ITEN and others like that.

Alright, well, anyone with a RT/2nd ed. inspire thread feel free to post here and I'll try to snag them and put them up top.

Funnily enough I recently decided to repaint my RTB01 beakies which turned into a little Marine army (my first for about 15 years!) And I've recently picked up some 2nd ed Eldar, inspired by Elbows it has to be said.

Not sure if I'll ever use them. I have fond memories of 2nd, amd still think i've got my rules and cards somewhere.  How does it stand up nowadays? A bit clunky?

Does this include purely modelling projects? I have my Squat army thread that uses mostly the old Squat plastics... but is geared towards the current Astra Millitarum / Adeptus Astartes army lists.

Here is my thread: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=70087.0

At some point, it may actually have painting in it too :o

@Elbows - Is it only threads, or are blogposts allowed?

I did a few posts back in 2011 on the figures I have. Not all of them are painted, but still...

If it's allowed I'll post links. If not, I shall just wallow in the nostalgia and think - "must not start another project" lol

edit: adding blog links

First lot of mostly unpainted Space Marines
Second lot. Mixture of painted and unpainted Marines - including the original limited edition chap they reissued recently
Painted Imperial Guard and others
Painted Space Marines. I painted these a couple of years ago and was not at all happy with how they turned out. I still haven't given them their final varnish and suspect they'll be stripped and redone at some point

That sounds like a good background, always liked the idea of backwater planets, a 40 k version of Tortuga, tattoine and Logan's world in one  lol

Sure, if you guys have blogs which cover stuff like this, feel free to post the link here and I'll add it.  Modelling projects are also fine.

Sir Theo, Audrey and I have been scheming a bit - and 2nd edition is definitely a bit clunky but some simple changes can really make it quicker to play while retaining the feel and fun.  If we get some more games in and get anything ironed out I'll be sure to compile the adjustments.  We re-did the entire psyker phase for instance, making it faster, easier, and just as neat.

If it is a good game, I think I may find some use for some 40K figures with the upcoming Rogue Star game from Osprey as well!

Ooh that sounds great! I'll keep my eyes out.

Rogue stars does sound good. I tend to buy all the Osprey rules anyway so I'm sure to pick it up.

In which case, my blog pretty much only covers my escapades in painting and modelling Rogue Trader 40k (and some 3rd Ed WFB!)
