A summer of Wargames Factory Zombies
« on: July 05, 2016, 05:22:52 AM »
As I said in a previous thread, I am going to use some time this summer to get more familiar with my airbrushesAfter a warmup on some terrain (to clear the table) I will paint some of the Wargames Zombie horde I picked up a few years ago at gencon. They are the perfect figures to work on my control with paint and inks as who expects neat Zombies?

First group of ten went quickly as the female Z's are mostly skin. After the base colors I decided to try airbrushing a diluted dark ink wash. That was a learning experience.   :(

So then I lightly repainted the base colors and flesh to brighten them up again and wound up with this as my first 10.

Definitely need to dilute my inks a lot more.

For this kind of projects where you want quick results, you should use washes instead of the airbrush : you will save a lot of time and efforts, for at least the same, or better result ;)

Block painting, drybrush, washes, or even "dip", these are the ways to go with Z  ;)

Very true. I wanted to practice my control on some project I had languishing. It's definitely not saving much time.  lol

I just finished 50+ of these.  I went the "Total lack of control" route:)  Yours look great:)

Truth is I'm following up the base coat with a brush to clean up the lines as even with a .20 I have quite a bit of drift.  Having fun with it anyway.
Base coated the next 20 while off from work over the holiday. Going with a more limited pallet for this set.

And of course a group shot of the girlz.

Used the airbrush to prime, then on the skin, bases and some base coats where the arms were out of the way. Otherwise finished the rest with the brush. Time for some pulp I think.

Awesome job, I love the look of variety you managed to get.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

The men were done years ago with some Victory force Zombies.  Not as nice sculpts as the girlz.

The male zombies were still designed by the original owners of Wargames Factory, that later went on to form the infamous Defiance Games after they got booted out of the company for general incompetence. The kits that came out after that were much superior.
