Painting glass windscreens/windows (Done 18/7/16)
« on: July 07, 2016, 02:31:29 PM »
I was wondering what the favoured methods for painting the glass on vehicles people have - currently about to do one of WGs closed-top Horchs - was considering the standard grey/blue gradations with diagonal lighter streaks but wondered if anyone had any better ideas?

There are loads of ideas, from black with 2 coats of gloss to reflections of the surroundings painted into it, and everything in between. What fits you the best I reckon.

Cheers, option anxiety appears to have me at an impasse currently, hopefully something will have pushed me towards a particular approach by the weekend, 'till then all suggestions gratefully recieved.

Tell me about it, I went from Black with gloss to blue with even brighter blue to the method I use these days, though always coating it with 2 layers of gloss for the shine.

....not that the gloss shows properly under a daylight bulb, but you get the idea :)

You'll drive yourself nuts with this one.Gunbirds right there's multiple methods just depends on you.I'd recommend that you take a look at the work of the' Ghost Army' especially if your doing WW2. Their decoy vehicles if nothing else should give you a good idea of where to high light, and to shade a window. No matter what colours you choose to use.
Mark.

Many thanks Mark, will check them out. Gunbird, never thought I'd say such a thing, but that's a lovely Lada! (I really like the way you've done the rust.)

Finally went for a dark blue/grey blended through to a light blue/grey with some paler streaks.

I think you made a great job !

On my vehicles, I'm using a horizontal gradient, from blue colors, or sometimes from grey colors. Here's some examples :

That did turn out well.

I'm a black 'n' gloss man myself with the variation of Vallejo gunmetal blue and gloss which I think works well for vision blocks. Headlights are silver or gunmetal blue with a silver highlight. Partly laziness, partly cos it actually looks more realistic from my POV or at least no less realistic for less work.

I cannot abide the jewelled lights look and the graded colour thing never looks right to me.  Purely a personal aesthetic.
