Indian Mutiny - Advice please.
« on: July 03, 2016, 07:11:35 AM »
I'm just starting painting up some Iron Duke mutineers and have come across a minor stumbling block. Several of the figures have bead necklaces around their throats. Although several references show these  and show them as a shiny off white, I can't find any reference as to exactly what they are made of. The painted figures on the Iron Duke page appear to be plain white, which suggests a ceramic.
Are they silver, pearls, glazed ceramics or something else entirely?  any suggestions would be appreciated.

Think they are of religious significance , not sure what they are made of but in some contemperary prints they are white in colour .

Mostly white (baked and glazed clay) but officers frequently wore gold or gilded ones. Some even double gold ones. These were also allowed when in uniform.

@dadlamassu, sorry my thank you is somewhat tardy, but I only read your post an hour ago, since then I've been reading your  web page and of course book marking it.
