What I Did on my weekend
« on: January 29, 2007, 02:43:38 AM »
Well, still working on a lot of different things. In between writing and dealing with playtesters  :) I spent some time working on the sewer board for Cold Wars 2007.

I still have not gotten a whole page up for it, but I'm building it so that I can move walls around and use it for Pulp, Swashbuckling, and Fantasy (probably sci fi as well). So, this weekend was laying out the plan for where I want the walls to go and what sizes they would need to be.

Here is what it looks like so far.

Here is a close up of the wall detail.

And here is a close up of the well/pit in the center of the board.

Great.
I would make the stones in a lighter grey. This one looks too dark.
Besides....In Germany ( I know you are not from here but from there ...) some sewers are made of red bricks what do you think of this colour as an alternative ?

--->Working on lightening the walls. They did turn out much darker then the floor. That was the test wall section to make sure Pete's sandpaper idea would work.

And I am doing the sewer tunnels in red blocks (you can see it in the close up. I went with gray because I wanted it dark and I wanted it for multiple uses (a castle dungeon, etc.)

Lookin' good. What's the verdict on the sandpaper?

As you can see from the photos, the look is perfect (just have to get the painting right). And the prep time is even faster so it should save me a couple of hours using the sandpaper.

However, the down side is that I think I'm killing my exacto blades way too quickly.

Rich - I'll loan you as many rats as you can take!

Very nice, and I can't wait to see it finished.  I've been planning (alright, "thinking about planning" a sewer set up) for at least six years now.

Sorry I missed this. What is  Pete's sandpaper idea? Some sort of quick way to make dungeon walls?

regards

All the walls and floors are sandpaper cut into either 1/2" squares (for the floors) or 1" x 1/2" rectangles for the walls. These are glued to foamcore and then painted. I use a 36 grit paper for the walls and a 60 grit paper for the floors. It provides the right appearance in my opinion.

Lovely work. Have you seen the range of sewers from Old Crow (formerly Ainsty)  www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/aisewers.htm
There might be a few useful bits and pieces.
