Haradrim 'snake cultists'
« on: January 27, 2009, 11:22:08 AM »
A little project for the New Year that I've been tinkering with - a unit of fanatics for my Haradrim army, in this instance a cult of snake-worshippers using Perry Miniatures superb Azerbaijanis from their Crusades ranges. The rationale is that like other elite units they disdain armour in favour of battle-enhancing drugs (probably derived from snake venom) and a do-or-die attitude. Given the Haradrim serpent emblem, I thought some tasteful snake tattoos on their torsos and sword arms was in order. Still only half painted but you get the idea...

That's a great idea and would certainly be more "Tolkien" than some of GW's creations.

Congratulations on a great use of alternative figures in a LotR setting. Once I get back on my feet, financially speaking, I will get some of these and shamelessly steal your idea  ;)

Please post pics of the finished unit  :D

I like! Nice to see someone taking the non-GW approach to LotR wargaming. They'd also look right at home in the Hyborian Age.

Yes, agreed, I stopped buying LOTR figures when they wandered away from the films.

The local GW manager was taken aback when I asked why the Axemen of Lossarnach had been issued halberds.........................

.... and as for persistent issuing of the same figures in 30 different poses...........

Agreed. Perries are slightly smaller than the official GW LotR stuff, aren't they?

Not sure. Many LotR-figs are 'true' 28 mm. Somewhat smaller than ost of GW's other stuf (an IG is bigger than an Uruk-hai).

Really? THAT small? Can someone verify?

I know Perries' sculpts are on the small side, but so are GW's LotR figures and if Perries' are even smaller, then it almost sounds like we're entering 1/72 territory.

I know, but in saying "Perries" I was only referring to their own company in this case.

I'm still very eager to know if the figures from Perry Miniatures really are even smaller than GW LotR standard.

I've just measured them and they are 30mm from the top of the head to the bottom of the metal base. I have no probs with compatability with other ranges. Mind you I use them with figures with robes etc. and I hate too much uniformity in any event...

I can only speak for those Perry figures I have, which are Napoleonic and a couple of Sudan things. They are smaller than many (i.e Copplestone), but not too far below the average.

I just held up a Perry Camel Corps fellow against a plastic Rohan warrior. The Camel Corps chap is considerably bigger. Also on the bench is a female figure from the Artizan Designs Thrilling Tales range, and he matches her for size pretty well.
