Faustus Furius - Chariot racing and more
« on: July 23, 2016, 06:49:45 AM »
Played our first game of Faustus Furius - the new (english translated) rules from http://www.ganeshagames.net/

We do chariot-racing once a year at a local Con, and love it so much I built custom chariots for the family.  Now with these new rules we are already planning on a formula -1 championship.

FF uses the Songs of Blades and Heroes rule concepts in a racing game.  While styled for chariots, it would work equally well as future pod-racing.  Tons of tactical decisions every turn, and no sitting around waiting for your number to be called.

Here is the write-up from our first game:

Looks like fun.
If you have 4 horses, do you go faster?

You can "spec out" chariots in various ways, with advantages and disadvantages.  The 4-horse is being run as a "heavy" chariot - an advantage when fighting, but gets a shorter bonus move.  Today's race was won by an "agile" chariot - the ability to make tight turns helped on the obstructed course.

We also had extra carnage and mayhem today, as players took turns controlling "NPC" chariots.  They spent a lot of time dramatically attacking other players!

Okay, and "double the horsepower" - I'm so mad I didn't think of that first... lol

Drat I might need to buy these rules. Racing in one of those things that requires a different way of thinking when translating to the tabletop.
