German Smocks

Hi All

I've just bought a section of late war German infantry wearing smocks. I would like to paint them so that they can be used in as many theatres as possible as well as in a weird war setting that I'm dreaming up and I was just wondering if anyone could please give me advice on what the best pattern for this would be? I would really like to paint them in white but I don't know how common that would be but I believe that the smocks were reversible(?) so this could work.

I know they're my toys so I can paint them how I like but I'd be interested if anyone has any insights before I charge off paintbrush in hand.

White was very common.......in winter, so if you are contemplating snowy bases go for it
Otherwise there was a standard colourds if you are talking the groundsheet/tent known as zeltbahn used as an improvised smock?

I'd go with splinter pattern (like the zeltbahns above), otherwise the only option is white (fine for winter, less so for the other nine months of the year) or one of the zillions of SS patterns - which instantly tags them as SS.

I'm going to paint up my 20mm with this splinter m43 pattern, general army use.
