Apart from scale, proportion, getting a bunch of MaA in the same box etc., how would these differ from the Perry HYW archers?

I'm guessing they are going to be from an earlier era? 13th or early 14th century, rather than early 15th? Though admittedly the differences in dress and armour will be less noticeable on archer than it would on fully armoured men at arms.
I'm interested to see how they look alongside the Perry ones, anyway.

 lol good answer.

As Charlie says, given that the other Fireforge medieval kits are 'Crusades' era - kind of generic early medieval 1100s ish, I'd expect these to represent a period at least a couple of hundred years before the distinctively C15th Perry sets. So quite different I suspect. The style of Fireforge is also quite different, although many of us happily kitbash Perry and Fireforge parts together for various medieval-ish settings  ;)

Just from the picture this will be really useful. I put all my Lannisters in kettle hats for some reason and this looks like it will provide.

I have been told that archers didn't wear kettle hats as the brim gets in the way of the string.
Both these and the Perry Brets wear them.
So, have I been misinformed?

You do tend to see a lot in arming caps and hoods, with kettle hats reserved for close combat/skirmishing... maybe a good variant is to use a substitute head with kettle hat belt-slung?

I think it's one of those 'no-one knows' situations where there are a lot of interesting theories.

I've also heard that kettle hats weren't worn, for that reason, which seems plausible to me. But I guess if the brim was small enough and didn't get in the way ...  It's not like helmets were made to a standard proportion or even that archers all drew the arrow to the same spot - some might draw to the mouth, some to the cheek, the eye, the ear, etc ...  Maybe the archer would have a kettle hat for hand to hand, but not wear it whilst using the bow. Who knows.

It's certainly fuel for a discussion that could run and run. Medieval illustrations do occasionally show archers in kettle hats, but then how accurate can we expect them to be? There's all sorts of crazy shit in those things.

One also needs to account for the "I don't care if it buggers my shot, I'm not standing here with no bloody helmet!" attitude.

The archer on the left has tilted the helmet and his head slightly, the archer on the right only tilts his head but it looks like he isnt drawing the string back quite as far. The guy in the middle looks thoroughly bothered by his helmet though...

I've worn a kettle hat while firing a bow and there were no issues, but since it was LARP I didnt need to pull the string back far enough for it to really prove anything.

The main advantage I can see would be sunshade for archers eyes.

Nice to see the living history element testing out the practicalities.
I'm with Armisurplus... if I had protective gear in a combat situation I'd certainly make sure I'd wear it and work around it. general protection and shielding from rain and sun would all play their part I imagine.
When you think of it Japanese ashigaru wore Jingasa while using bows and the brims on those were probably the same if not a little larger...

Available to pre-order now. Nice to see some new heads, and they will be great for kitbashing with other plastics.

Interesting! Are those the same bodies as the sergeants-at-arms (I think that's the one) set?
If so, it's just new arms and heads?

Some of the arms are in very weird poses... Seems to be a problem with a lot of plastic sets, getting good bow-firing arms... But some look good.

The heads look nice.
