Morgan Part 2
« on: August 27, 2016, 08:16:16 AM »
This piece portrays Colonel Dan Morgan ordering Riflemen Tim Murphy into a tree in order to shoot General Simon Fraser, who is leading a British counterattack. Murphy was considered the best shot in the Riflemen Brigade and Morgan realized that the battle was slipping away when this brave British Officer took the field. Legend has it that it took 3 shots for Murphy to hit Fraser.
Anyway this was a fun piece to make. There are 2 companion piece showing the rest of the Rifle Corps at Saratoga under construction.
I'll show then when they are finished.

Very nice.

What do you use for source material when creating a piece? Books, magazines, internet, Google Maps, field trips, other (or a mix of these)?

I use a combination of everything. Fortunately for me, I have traveled the US and know what the battlefield/terrain should look like. I'm especially interested in the Saratoga campaign, as I live in NY, and am very familiar with the grounds.
I've been interested in the AWI since "The Swamp Fox" and "Johnny Tremain" were on TV.

I just use what I think it should look like.

The second piece is almost ready. One more day or so.

Cool, thanks.

And you're old, bro. :D

Found the some of those inspirations on YouTube. I think I found my next background movie while I paint.

And you're old, bro. Cheesy

Maybe, but I got to see all the great bands of the 60's and 70's.
And being old beats the hell out of the alternative!!
