Centurion MkIII

 Managed to paint this Centurion MkIII for my Secrets of the Third Reich Brits over the weekend, it's the Force Of Arms MkIII & is an excellent model. In fact it's currently the only game in town if you want this subject in 1/56 (1/50 Dinky & 1/48 kits are about, but you'll probably be scouring ebay). That may be about to change soon as Blitzkreig are producing a Centurion in their cold war range (admitedly it's a MKV-VII with the L7 105mm, but it'd be a simple enough kitbash to turn it into an earlier model plus they also offer a choice of 1/56 or 1/48) & the rumour mill claims that Warlord are to produce one for their Konflict '47 game (this could be interesting as it'd have to be a MkI/II with the 17pdr & without the turret bins so would look quite different).

Great job on that painting and weathering. Didn't knew that Warlord rumour!  If would be great if they started doing more vehicles for the K47 range.

Many thanks, when WG unveiled the IS3 the mill inevitably started, those I asked at this years Salute were, of course, somewhat cagey. I assume that the more popular the game proves the greater the likelyhood we'll see some fun stuff - with WG handling the historical side & the CG crew the weird. (Personally would love a T29, Khurusan did a lovely 15mm one & it'd be fun to have such a beast to counter the IS3.)

Pity that the Clockwork Goblin guys decided to do go for the 4-legs approach to the German mechs. That killed my interest. And even the American ones are really ugly (the Coyote and one of the unreleased are the exceptions). No wonder many people are using their Dust mechs in the game.

If Warlord (or an independent manufacturer) could do some "Paper Panzers" (or their Allied equivalents) in 1/56, I'm sure that would sell. Even more "modern" (50's;60's) ones would sell (it would attract the Cold War players for instance).

 I also use the Dust models (with some conversions) for the larger German mechs, (not being keen on the K'47 Thor/Zeus design) but the CG Spinne has really grown on me - its resemblance to a SdKfz 222 on legs tickled me (& I really can't fault CG's production as they might be the best produced resin models I've come across - that they fit together beautifully & that I've never got a warped piece needing the hot water treatment is a testament to their production process). I was a little concerned with the WG take-over & changing some of the kits pieces to pewter (the detail's never quite as crisp) but so far it seems ok.

Yeah, their resin work is great. That Tesla turret is a wonder, not a single mould line just a little of excess resin to clean under the muzzle brake. The Spinne looks like a toy to me, sold mine as soon as I opened its blister, . But I'll shut up, it's your thread and about Secrets of the Third Reich

I'd been hunting after a Centurion myself for modern Israelis, but those things are hellish to get a hold of in 28mm.

I'll confer that rumour about Warlord. I was told they're releasing one within the year at the last show I was at, though take that timescale with a grain of salt I suppose.

It doesn't look half as nice as yours, Ballardian: a lovely piece of work on a nice model.  But are FoA trading again now?

Steve F - thanks, it's a good model & fun to paint. Have to admit that I don't know if FoA have returned to trading, I thought that he'd stopped temporarily to sort out some personal stuff, I know he sold a couple of ranges off (his SCW stuff to Warlord as it was all good for early war Soviets). I wish him well & hope he can return to producing his excellent kits.
(The Centurion had sat in my to-do pile/tower of shame for a while & I'm very pleased to have got round to it - my excuse being that expensive heavy tanks didn't often end up in my army lists, that'll have to change now!)
Wyrmalla - you're right, it's a bugger to get hold of one - the Blitzkrieg one being your best bet, but it depends on how fast they get their Cold War range out.

Tank-mania.com has Centurion Mk III in 1/48 scale. It is resin with brass bits. They also offer a PT-76, and a BTR-50! Great for SOTR, Konflict, or Dust.
