Osprey Black Ops: additional rules
« on: September 08, 2016, 10:03:33 AM »
Hi guys,
I am the new guy and recently started playing Black Ops. After several games I need additional rules, but could not come up with good ideas. My concepts just do not feel right. Hope you can help.

- Predator drone assaults
- dogs
- black propaganda
- infiltrators
- gas and poison

Thank you in advance!

Dogs were discussed here in a BlackOps-Thread.

What do you mean with Black Propaganda? In the moment I see this more like a RPG think. You can useblinds moved by one player to built this.
For gas you can use cotton balls moved by direction dice (one direction dice and one d6 - the d6 is simultanious rolled. When rolled a 5or 6 the ball is taken out of play). Soldier hit by the ball get a Closecombat attack.

"Black Propaganda" should be a faction special ability like Maskirovka, manipulating Blinds, so I will think about it again.

You are right, Black Ops has RPG-like elements, that is something I like a lot about the rules.

I have looked into the dog rules. I really like your idea of using poisoned food. K-9 handlers for police forces on the attacking side should also be considered.

The effects of gas should be more table wide, I don't like using templates (or cotton balls) but I thank you for your input nonetheless.

I wonder why using HAZMAT suits, when I don't have rules for gas or diseases. Should be scenario specific rules, but all I my ideas feel "inelegant".

When you think about gas on the complet table it means you give the unsaved soldiers a negative modifier like -1 when shooting and for close combat. Harder will be, first -1 and after some rounds -2 and then unconsciousness.

I like this suggestion a lot, I am planning a chart for campaign gaming, including MIA, KIA, wounded, severe damage and other results for defeated soldiers. Unconsciousness is another nice idea! Could lead to "rescue prisoners" missions...

The good thing about BlackOps is, that it keeps all rules as simple as possible. So, I think you are going too much in detail and at the end you have an other Force on Force. First, in my opinion, it is important to close all the whole of missing rules.

That couldn't be more true. I am very detail orientated. :)

I do not know Force on Force, is it a good rules set?

Do you have any suggestions for poison (including poisoned melee weapons) and diseases? Should a disease be a scenario component only?

I think dogs should be a squad upgrade, granting the handler an additional melee die, and add +1 to an observation test. Save 6+ (no armour, of course, but low profile).

The idea of FoF is good, but it becomes a monster of reactions. In this system, simular to the Two Hour Wargames-System, you have to take a lot of reactions when you do some action. I think it is made for soloplayers, but it is my opion. I prefer systems like BlackOps, which are fast. They are not going in the absolute deep of a situation, ut for a two or more player game it is deep enough.

The idea for dogs is great, but do units only have one dog???

I think FoF is not my kind of thing...

Cost for the dogs is +4 per unit (3-4 men). In this way you can create a whole K-9 unit. Leaders, Heavies and Specialists pay half cost as usual.

Overcosted?

Only normal troopers should have dogs, the rest seems to be ok. Other comments?

What about poison (including poisoned melee weapons) and diseases? what other rules are missing?
