3D Print for Frostgrave?
« on: September 18, 2016, 11:11:20 AM »
I wander if anyone knows, whether there are 3D Print models on the web, that are good to use as Frostgrave scenery. Just found those of Fatdragon Games and of Printable Scenery. Any others?

In fact I think I am going to print one of those and use it for impressing chicks.

Bet I can make mine smaller than yours. That's what gets the girls going right?  ;D

Very cool! I wonder what kind of 3D printer you need to get nice qualify minis. Some I've seen printed look as if they have a really thick coat of primer blurring details.

Pretty high end, but not as unreachable as you might think. See my work on the pulp and future wars boards.

Thanks, very interesting!
Looking around the web, I also found https://www.myminifactory.com/de/scantheworld/
with free models. Lots of real world statues. Rescaled for 28mm they should look nice on a table.

Mind not every 3d model is easily printed.

If someone should be interested: I found examples of terrain from Printable Scenery for free on Thingiverse:

I will give it a try and than post some pics.

After one week of testing, here are the results. I started with watching the videos from Greg-FL on youtube (Thanks @Scurv for posting!) He seemed to be fond of the designs from printable scenery. I first tried the piece, which I got for free on Thingiverse. It was well designed (good looking, fast printing...), so I buyed a bigger one, the Dragon Archway (in blue,  printed on low resolution). I think this piece of terrain is great for frostgrave.

I also tried the statue of a mermaid from myminifactory. When I resized the model for 28mm, it got grooves. But I think it's not a problem, because in Felstad, after thousand years under the ice, it may look weathered. And a aceton steam bath helped to smoothen the printed model a little bit.

Thanks for this link. I tried printing one of the statues from there. I think it will work well (I down scaled it a bit)

I don't remember which one it was... it was several pages down.  I'll try to look it up when I get home again.

My advice is see if any of these folk have a test file you can download and print off to get an idea of their quality of work before laying any cash down. Caveat emptor all the way with files.

Now to answer your question have a look on thingiverse for free models. Lots of 28mm stuff there.

Think outside the box as well. There is this kick arse castle this dude made in there that you could totes cut up and resize and get tons of great modular bits in a matter of hours.

In fact I think I am going to print one of those and use it for impressing chicks.

Well, I'm impressed anyways! :)
