Visual Guide to Heroics & Ros WW1/WW2
« on: September 19, 2016, 04:30:10 AM »
Hopefully this is the appropriate sub-forum for this:

I'm putting together a sort of visual catalogue of Heroics & Ros' WW1 and WW2 stuff. It's at http://mojobob.com/wargaming/images/micros/fitzheroicsandros/fitzheroicsandros.html. I'm a big fan of H&R, but I'm continually frustrated by the inability to actually see what they've got for sale. The situation on their website is improved enormously over the old days, but there's still a huge amount missing, pictorially speaking.

Ideally I'd like to be able to have pics of the models both unpainted and painted, so that people can see what they're going to get from H&R, and what can be done with them.

It's amazingly incomplete as yet, since I've had to make a start with just the stuff I own and can photograph, but I've already had a bit of help with some photos of stuff I don't own. The pictures are a bit of a mish-mash at the moment, but over time I'll try to rationalize them into a common size and format — that's less important to me right now than simply getting images available for viewing.

If you have any H&R models that you wouldn't mind photographing to help fill out the lists, I'd be very grateful for any help. It would be very useful if you could give me the product codes along with the images, or at the least to identify the vehicle/gun/aeroplane, since I don't necessarily know enough to be able to identify every obscure vehicle at a glance to match it up to the catalogue number.

Excellent work, thanks

I have been looking for good pics of their 1/300 WW1 aircraft for some time

They look good - can I ask your opinion of them?

I have some 1/600 Tumbling Dice which are nice but would like to move up a scale
No dear, they are not toys, they are models

They look good when they're painted up. Good silhouettes, though wings etc. are generally a bit thick due to casting limitations, but not as bad as some other brands I've tried. They're not straightforward to assemble though, and I almost always replace the struts and undercarriage with copper wire.

They look okay after a bit of cleaning up - be prepared for a good-sized pile of metal dust on the workbench!
I replace the struts/booms with brass wire, and am in the process of retro-fitting landing gear to my existing stock (of well over 100) - the white metal stuff is just too flimsy and 'dishevelled' imo.  The stock holes for them (struts'n'stuff) are also a bit off, location-wise.

Along those lines, the biggest trouble I've had with them has been misalignment in the mold (the model is normally split top and bottom), which -after cleaning- leaves one wing longer than the other and worse: filing each side of the fuselage smooth takes a good chunk out of the width of the model and messes with centerline features (like cockpits, engines, etc...).  Worst case was a pack of Sopwith Triplanes that ended up in the bin because the (mis)alignment of the halves eliminated the tailsurfaces entirely.

That said, they are good, robust playing pieces that do the job from a tabletop-standard, and I recommend them over the (nicer looking but more fragile) CinC and/or Shapeways things on the market.

FWIW, you can see some (not-so-great) pics of my stuff in action on my photobucket page ( http://s575.photobucket.com/user/brawlfactory/library/?sort=6&page=1   - look in 'aerial craps' and/or 'WAD')

Thanks for the opinions  - they are only £1 each so out comes the wallet

Really I want them for the latest version of the Blue Max boardgame to replace the counters

... being a miniatures gamer I always have the urge to replace 2D components  :)

these are much better

Great job!

I to am a big fan of H&R they are great value for money. But it is unbelivable that you can run a webshop in 2016 and not have any pictures of your product.

I've got a load of their 1/300 aircraft - as said above they can be a bit rough and ready but they paint up nicely.
Good tip about copper wire to replace struts - the biplanes were driving me bonkers.

I'll try and get some photos together for you. The only advantage of it being historical stuff is that you can just google to find out what stuff looks like - but it's a bit tedious.
