What could be a more essential wargaming terrain piece than the common hill? No matter what period, no matter what setting, hills will be featured. They add visual interest and tactical complexity to any gaming surface, may it be modular boards, gaming mats or just a green table-cloth.

They may be an essential piece of gaming terrain, but making naturalistic looking hills that not only allow easy placement of models, but also easy placement and removal of trees or other terrain features,  can be a challenge.

In this post I show you my take on such hills and try to solve some of the problems one may encounter by using the fantabulous power of magnets *gasp*! Obviously this tutorial can also be used for terrain boards.

Excellent tutorial.  I am looking forward to the 'how to' make olive trees.  I need a few for my Punic War project.

Glad the tutorial is of use. Olive trees should be on the menu next week.

If it's in the 'how to' section, surely the content should be on the forum rather only accessible via a link? Otherwise what should be a library of tutorials just becomes a database of links.

Mods?

My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2024 = 32
(2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

It's a good point.

Maybe the OP could copy and paste the post from his blog but still keep the link for when poeple want to visit it.

Yeah, but having just reread the LAF rules I'm now not sure that I made a reasonable point! :D

On reflection it kind of harks back to the 'links but no pics' debate. Anyone can post pretty much just a link but some images are encouraged, which is exactly what the OP has done, so all good from the OP's perspective. It just seems like quite an odd rule with regard to 'how to', which always seemed like a place you'd go to find out how to do stuff, rather than it being effectively a directory, etc.

Nice looking hill btw.  8)

Edit: And apologies to the OP for having so quickly taken the thread off topic! Should have started a new thread to raise the point......

Ahoi guys,

I am actually very happy to add more information to the posts on here. Paste and copy should not pose a problem. It is clear that I would like to drive some traffic to my blog ,too, but generally speaking I am more interested in sharing my stuff and inspiring people to give it try  no matter the platform.

I will do so with the next tutorial. Problem at the moment is, that I cannot just paste and copy the html from wordpress without significant alterations, so what I might do is to write an abbreviated version that focuses on the main points and then for the full article put a link to the blog in the bottom of the post.
