Great paint jobs! The miniatures themselves are a bit odd-looking to me. Usually I like Reaper's miniatures, and I'd say I like the choice of clothes and armor here, but for some reason it looks kind of like the made the hands and feet "heroic" proportions while the faces are much smaller. I wonder if that's an issue with the original sculpt or if it transferred in a funny way to whatever they make the Bones Black molds out of. Anyway, great work as always!

Frugalmax, I didn’t notice that- and now I can’t unsee it…

I’m not sure if it’s the case with this sculpt, but my understanding is that many of Reaper’s newer releases in plastic were digitally sculpted and never produced in metal. I wonder if that is what happened with this elf?

In any case, the painting is beautiful and I probably wouldn’t notice the sculpt oddity when using the figure in games.

Just noticed another odd thing on the sculpts (I hope this isn't too negative or hijacking the thread- it's intended to be constructive and for discussion, and the sculptor still did a much better job than I could do)- their belts are up around where I'd imagine the lower end of their ribcages would be (I assume elves have ribcages, but I've never met one in person, much less performed an autopsy). This gives the lower portion of the miniature a much larger appearance than I'd expect, while contributing to the "squished" look of the upper body and faces. But I could be wrong! Every elf can be their self, in Rivendell, Guelph, or on your shelf!... sorry.

Elves have really long legs and if like humans, as they age probably pull their trousers etc up higher and higher - eg the waistband. So if you compare photos/pictures of old human males, you will note the belts and top of trousers are up around their lower ribcages.

So guess they are really old elf rangers. when younger belts are lower...probably their noses and ears and hands get big too. They are good enough and the paint job even better.

Probably cut them in half and count the growth rings to confirm that...

I just enjoy Deano's painting style here as ever it's top notch.

@Deano- Great job on that talisman figure! I love all the colors! Also, sorry for diverting your thread into a discussion on elf fashion and skeletal proportions!

Of course, you are right, and I didn't even consider that what I took to be the strap holing the quiver on is actually an elven version of suspenders.

@anevilgiraffe- Indeed! They must be on their way to the ball to see the charming Mr. Bentleylas or the scowling Mr. Darcirond!
