Some new hills
« on: October 14, 2016, 01:20:02 AM »
I've spent this week making some hills. I have an upcoming Battle of Hastings game coming up and needed a Senlac Ridge so I decided to make one. While I was at it I decided to make a few more hills. Along with 6 older ones I now have a pretty decent collection.

Made with styrofoam. Cut with a hot wire cutter, shaped with a rasp file then standed.
All the edges and corners were then edged with masking tape.
A good coat of brown caulk.
Covered with three colours of home made flock (using watered down pva).
When dry sprayed with watered down pva.

They are lightweight and strong.

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

How did you get them to stick to the ceiling? Hot glue?

JK aside, they look nice.
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Remember he's from Australia, that's the floor ;)

Great work! I've tried but I can never do something similar.

By styrofoam, do you mean the white one, from packaging, or the blue/pink one for construction? I usually use the blue one but I find it a pain to shape it.

Ha Ha... lol

I wonder how that happened? The actually photo is the right way up.
I just looked at it in my files and it's the right way up.

It seems you're correct.

I should have written extruded styrofoam. It's orange but just like the blue one.

I'll try the pic again

EDIT: Nope... It happened again.  :?

Are you posting from an iPhone with an edited image? Sometimes the forum seems to pick up the unedited version. I save images in Touch Up Pro before posting which sorts then out.

I really should get round to make some hills, my games always take place on a completely flat surface.

Hmmm, I'll have to try a bigger rasp then. And then some sandpaper to smooth it down.

Thanks for the reply.

Not an iphone but the photo is is from my new phone (first pic I've taken). So maybe that's it. I'll put it through photoshop, save as a jpeg and re-post to see what happens.

Cheers.
