The Red Armoured Train 'Comrade Legoripov' (WIP)
« on: October 16, 2016, 12:02:15 PM »

I've started another armoured train construction project for the Back of Beyond:

http://jimswargamesworkbench.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/the-red-armoured-train-comrade-legoripov.html

I'm hoping to make some more progress over the net few days.

 :D

Cheers

Jim

Are you going to cut all the knobs off the top?

That is no way to talk about our glorious leaders!  >:(

Interesting build. I have been looking to get some usefull lego bits for converting mecha myself, I have to custom order them though, I can't get myself to use the old lego I still have.

Yep, all the nobbly bits will either be covered over or sliced off and sanded down.

First of the wagons now done (sort of). I think it needs some more detailing with something to make the over scale thickness door look less over scale?:

That's fantastic and a bloody good use of Perry/Renedra bases by the looks of it.

I agree about the inspired use of bases for armour cladding but surely its a bit of an expensive option to go for?
I'm afraid I'm going to have to report you to the NSPCL - cutting all the knobs off (really!)

A few tweaks added to beef up the armour and hide the thickness of the side doors.

The plastic bases were surplus from the numerous boxes of 28mm plastic figures I have stockpiled, so were going spare as I use mdf bases and coins for my figures.

I also used some plastic card Peter Pig bases which are pre-cut to useful sizes, plus some plastic strip and rod which is really useful stuff for this sort of thing.

 ;)

An interesting project.
It's seems a little over engineered. I  love the inventive use of Lego as an aid to scaling and proportions. Its got to have bumped the weight. It looks like a labour love, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress.
Mark.

I too have to agree your use of lego and bases which many of us have lying around is genius. Are those bogies lego or some other make?

Thanks.

The bogies are from a toy train set that I got a couple of in a post Xmas sale at Robert Dyas. I think they were about a tenner or so for each set which included a loco and tender and two tanker wagons. I have enough bogies for five wagons and about six foot of plastic track to run them up and down on, assuming I keep one tender and loco to use as an unarmoured version  :D
