Not yet dust – Warhammer 30k Thousand Sons
« on: October 19, 2016, 05:30:18 PM »
Plea of guilty beforehand: My wargaming career is deeply rooted in 'the Games Workshop hobby'™, and although I've long lost interest in their core ranges and rules I've still got a soft spot for quite a few of their minis and background stories. So, under the continued release of 'games in a box' (and Lt. Hazel's whisperings!) I have finally succumbed to the Evil Empire again.
What better start then as to revive a gone and buried love, the most unwilling servants of Chaos, the Thousand Sons.

So far I've built one of two Tactical Squads to appear either in GW's recent Horus Heresy boardgames or in killteam actions using Pulp Alley, In the Emperor's Name or any other kind of small skirmish game. They still miss some iconography which will be added as soon as the remaining marines are ready as well.

Although my supply of spare bits has run dry long ago, converting these models was great fun. I particularly enjoyed 'upgrading' one of the command figures to an infamous Thousand Sons psyker casting spells on the enemy.

You've already noticed that the Thousand Sons appear here in their "pre-heresy" uniform of red and gold (or white). Since the boardgame requires you to paint up an opposing force as well, there's only one possible choice really…

Thanks for visiting! :)

Fantastic, and a beautiful set-up for the next boxed set (Burning of Prospero).  Love the conversion you did on the Chaplain as well.

Hey, if you're going to field 40k force, the Thousand Sons are one of the best-written.  Maybe it's just me but I like my Chaos Warriors the way I like my women: morally ambiguous with a complex back story.  These figures are absolutely stunning BTW, although I won't lie, the classic blue/gold has always been my favourite.

Those do look spectacular.  I can't wait until the Prospero set comes out.  I'm building terrain for it now, I was actually just painting my pyramid before coming up here to look at the computer.

What is your formula for doing them?

Really lovely brushwork, and some neat modelling too!

And, just in time for the next (upcoming) HH boxed set of... Yes, TS vs SW!  lol

Lovely clean brushwork and a great conversion with the psyker.

You are not the only Guilty one..... ::)

And threads like this do not help me stay way from the Dark Path.

I've owned BaC materials twice...and both times sold them off (once after painting up those Mentors).  I'll probably end up with the freakin' Burning of Prospero for damn near no reason.  lol

Yes, I'm very much looking forward to the next set. Excellent value, even when compared to non-GW kits.

Pictors Studio, there's how-to-paint video for Word Bearers by Warhammer TV. Simply copied that and substituted the black trims for golden ones. Casings are in light grey with a pure white highlight, any organic material (holsters, pouches…) in off-white colours. Finally, lenses and gems were done in turqouise (using Foundry Teal Blue here).

Agis, your TS were actually a great inspiration. The more as you chose the old(?) colour scheme which I much prefer over the metallic armour effects established by Forgeworld.

Hazel, please do! The first one turned out very, very nice. Since you started this madness, we may do this even as a contest. :D

Fantastic paint work!  :-* Lovely red on the armour and not over highlighted (I can get a bit carried away and go a bit too orangey).
