New Secret Base in the Heart of London
« on: 20 October 2016, 08:50:27 AM »
Don't be fooled, guys... This is NOT the largest station concourse. Just think about it - subterranean vault like spaces, monumental concrete pillars and walls, hi-tech banks of large video screens, shiny chrome and steel and glass... Anyone who has travelled to London Bridge station in the UK recently cannot but help be reminded of a supervillain's secret base like in You Only Live Twice or The Spy Who Loved Me.

All that is needed are guys in orange jumpsuits with automatic weapons and maybe a monorail. Ken Adam and Derek Meddings move over, there's a new villain in town...

I have to toil through that villain's lair almost every day of the freaking week.  :'(
Trust me, it is an evil and thoroughly villainous place. 5 years and multi multi millions of redevelopment, and they've still managed to mess it up, with platforms that are now reduced to such narrowness, thanks to the enormous escalators up and down to the subterranean level that have to be accommodated on each and every platform, that when my train arrives in the morning and disgorges its cargo of several hundred bleary eyed commuters, it now takes at least 5 minutes to shuffle in a crush along the platform, in order to reach the ticket gate line. An absolute farce, the whole thing. And it still won't be completed for another 18 months. Grrrr.

But anyway, yes, you're right. It does resemble a villain's lair  ;)
All I can say is that whatever malign intelligence was behind this evil scheme wasn't intelligent enough! More like the work of the Fat Controller after a night on rum and cocaine...

Rant over  :D

Reckon its very likely where they got the idea/plans from for it.

The guy in the last picture, on the right stripey black/grey top. Definitely evil minion/employee material

So glad my 5 days of evil London commute don't include having to go through that hellhole of a construction site

I wonder where the submarine pens are hidden?
Perhaps the shard next door is nothing more than a missile silo hidden in plain sight!

There's some highly inspirational elements in those photos.

I have a book on former Soviet bus stops and it's good for that too.

I firmly believe that all large monuments throughout the world are secret nuclear missile silos.  The Sphinx is how old?  Yep, doubt it.  MISSILE LAUNCHER.
