Jeff's Sharp Practice AWI thread update 12/07/17
« on: October 31, 2016, 01:48:41 PM »
Well this is the first project I've started for quite a while (over two years in fact).
I've been playing a lot of SP2 lately and I've been bitten by the bug, so I've decided to put a couple of small forces together lifted in the main from the rule book.
I've started with the British which initally will consist of 3 "big men" and 38 rank and file and will be based around the Royal Welch Fusiliers (obvs) and the Guards light companies.
I've painted the first big man, he's a level1 Sergeant and four rankers to keep him company, I'll update the thread as I go along and hopefully that will keep me committed to the project and stop me getting side tracked by the next shiny thing lol.
Anyway here's some photos.

Some close ups, with a picture of the backpack which has a stencilled Regimental badge on the back.

They look great Jeff.  We've been playing a lot of Sharp Practice 2 AWI ourselves. It's a period I've never had a great deal of interest in but we've had some brilliant games.

Thanks chaps, I've promised myself at least a monthly update on this thread, let's see how that goes.

Nice work Jeff!  :D

Are they on 20mm round bases?

They are mounted on British pennies Ray so yes about 20mm. Looking at the bases in the photos, they look really rough so that's the first thing I'm going to change. I'm also thinking of mounting my "big men" on larger bases so that they are more recognisable on the table top.

They look great Jeff.  We've been playing a lot of Sharp Practice 2 AWI ourselves. It's a period I've never had a great deal of interest in but we've had some brilliant games.

I've always loved the Perrys AWI stuff Steve, just never got around to doing anything about it. They are not the nicest figures to paint out there but I do like them all the same.
I really like SP2, I've tried all sorts of rules for the black powder period and I think these are the best. Learning the rules is not the easiest thing I've ever done but perseverance is paying off.
The time absolutely flys by when we play them, I think it's because you are constantly being asked to make descisions. never a dull moment lol.

I think I'll rebase these now and get the other two British leaders done next, not exactly sure what I'm looking for with the basing, but I'll know it when I see it lol.
