[Sellswords] Battle Report: The warband of Grogmilda

Yesterday I played the sixth scenario of my Solo campaign of "Sellswords & Spellslingers". The basic scenario was ispired, with some minor changes, from the rulebook: Orcs and slippery stones pg44.

A small warband of Orcs and Goblins harass the villages of a petty lord. A bounty will be paid for each greenskin slained.

Grogmilda, the female half orc chieftain was contemplating the embers of the small hearth, while her orc lieutenant grunted nervously. Some voices came from the west, tales about a purple sorcerer accompanied by some servants that was burning all the greenskins he met.
Grogmilda: "The purple sorcerer is close, I feel it... we must be ready to fight him..."
Her lieutenant orc answered affirmatively with a grunt and a nod.

Traits: Spellcaster (20xp), Fireball (5xp), Alchemy (Heal) lvl1.
Negative Traits: Greedy (-5xp)
Silver pieces: 130 Equipment: Potion of Heal
Amron is the bastard son of the rich merchant and explorer Dante Graciale of Tobaro. He is an half elf. His father never said much about Amron's elf mother. He simply told him that his mother chose his name before abandoning him and that she was a witch. Being an half elf and the result of an illicit relationship, Amron could not be officially recognized by the Graciale family, however his father grew him as his son and he could enjoy a comfortable life. When he was an adult, he finds out to have the spellcaster gift and his father paid a magician to teach him. Dissatisfied with the limiting lessons of his teacher, he decided to begin a journey in the Border Princes, where he could test is magic skills and learn magic faster.


DAETHSKAR "the Dark Knight" 35xp
Traits: Armor lvl2 (12xp), Fighter: Axe lvl3 (15xp), Shield lvl2 (8xp)
Negative Trait: Burly
Silver Pieces: 247
Daethskar is an animated armor, created by Amron during one of his magic experiments.
He is the loyal body guard of Amron. He follows and protects his master wherever he goes.


The TWINS 10xp
Traits: Armor lvl1 (6xp), Danger Sense (4xp)
Silver Pieces: 207
The Twins is/are just a goblin mutant mercenary hired by Amron.


an horde of goblins is burned from the fireball spell of Amron.
Amron: "I never will be tired of burning these pitiful creatures" 😈


A lone goblin ambush Amron, but he is easily defeated.
Amron: "How you dare to ambush me? Fool! My mere stick will be enough to punish you!" 😬



a goblin try to ambush The Twins but he is defeated. Amron cast a fireball and injures the orc lieutenant.
The Twins: "Bad Goblin! Bad Goblin is dead, now!" 😡


Another fireball from Amron and the Orc Lieutenant is gone.

Grogmilda, arrives attracted by the flames.
Grogmilda: "Purple Sorcerer I do not fear you! You will face the anger of Grogmilda!" 😤


Amron, not impressed by the fierce female half orc, cast two fireballs and defeat her.
Amron: "I will face the anger of... who?" 😒


Grogmilda, badly burned is upset and humiliated by the great power of magic.
Grogmilda: "Then t-this... is the true power of magic..." then faints.


The Twins and Daethskar plunder the defeated orcs.


an horde of goblins archers try to shot to Amron, but he avoid their arrows and then cast another fireball, burning them.
Amron: "Stupid green monkeys... They really don't know when is time to run away..." 😑


another goblin is defeated by the fireball of Amron.


an horde of goblins comes dangerously close to Amron.
Amron: "That's not good, they are ridiculous warriors, but there are many of them..." 😟


The Twins charge a particularly resistant gobin, injuring him.


Amron burn all the goblin horde with another of his fireballs.
Amron: "My fears were groundless, these greenskins could not survive the power of my magic..." 😌


The Twins defeat the goblin warrior.


Amron kill another goblin with his fireball.


The Twins run fast to reach a lone goblin hiding in the forest.


Amron, move toward one of the last goblins.
Amron: "It's time to finish the work..." 😠

Then the goblin is gone.


The Twins finally reach the last goblin and defeat him.


While plundering the bodies of the dead, Amron is surprised to find that the female half orc is still alive. Fainted but alive. Impressed by her endurance and almost human appearance, he decide to heal her and take her prisoner. Then grogmilda offers herself as a mercenary, impressed by the strenght of the company.
Amron: "Then you want to join my cabal, half greenskin? So be it... We will see if you will be a good fighter... " 😒

The PCs gain a reward of 5xp, plus 2 individual xp. They receive 10 silver pieces for each slained goblin and 20 for each slained orcs. A new member join the Cabal of Graciale: Grogmilda the female Half  orc.

Your table is pretty and smart, too.  The steep hills and tall trees really give it a nice vertical feel.  Flat tops and moveable trees means almost every square inch of surface is available to figures.  Some day I'll get around to trying S&S.

The female half orc is a simple conversion I did (pointed ears, fangs, armored arm with big axe, heads on the belt) using the Valor Barbarian Valkyrie from Laughing Monk.

The miniature of the twins somehow looks familiar to me, but I can't remember where I might have seen it before. Would you please tell me where you have got it from?

Like almost all the fantasy miniatures I paint and play in my games, "the twin" is e an oldhammer miniature (chaos goblin mutant), from Citadel, about 1984 (pre slotta miniature).

I just played another scenario, this time it was much harder, I almost lost the game
The board is 90x90cm as suggested in the S&S rules.
