Medieval Mice?
« on: November 11, 2016, 02:35:49 AM »
Who makes the best Medieval mice and other assorted varmints, a la Mouse Guard and Redwall? I need some cool minis to play light hearted games with my little daughters.

Plenty of choices, including Reaper and Irregular Miniatures, but I like the Eureka Miniatures ones (Mike Broadbent sculpts):

You might try the Mice and Mystics boardgame and expansions. If you want them flying on birds there's Tail Feather.
I like my games like my orange juice: pulpy with no added sugar or artificial sweeteners

The Reaper mouslings have the advantage of cheapness (in Bones) and variety - everything from a princess to an assassin.

Here are some from my daughter's warband (they're still WIP but have seen a bit of tabletop action already):

I think Dark Sword has a number of animal types like that as well?

I think most of the biggies have been mentioned already.

I like the Zombiesmith range for how comprehensive it is for mice - there are a bunch of different mouse troop types, and plenty of sculpts for each.  There's a smattering of other critters, but the focus is really on the mice.

Dark Sword has a huge variety of critters, especially lots of frogs, but they're not great for unit-building if that's something that you're interested in.  They're almost more like anthropomorphic role-playing characters.

Splintered Light has a huge variety of critters too, are cheaper than Dark Sword, but I doubt they're compatible with most other ranges for size.

One that I don't think got mentioned was Eureka, who has mouse warriors, samurai rabbits, and various frogs.  Their frogs are a little less high fantasy than Dark Sword's, with muskets, spears, etc.

The Eureka frogs are based on the Japanese artist Kyōsai's work:

More on the miniatures here:

The Eureka mice are more for mass battle, I think the other ranges are a lot more individualistic in their character.
