Fantasy Greeks
« on: November 12, 2016, 11:03:33 AM »
Been hopping between my Victorian/Napoleonic inspired army of IG for 40k (see 'Royal Army of Venus' ob the VSF board) and this force of Greek mythology inspired hoplites which was originally for Fantasy Battle but which I'll now be using for Age of Sigmar.
Although I'm using Greek mythology as a starting point, I decided to give the army a slightly more exotic feel, so will be painting the humans with darker skin and painting the horses and centaurs with a zebra pattern to give the force a more African feel. Good thing about the setting of AofS is that it's basically infinite, so fitting in a force of your own devising is far easier than in the days of WFB-the sky's the limit :) Stat wise I'll be using 'Order'-so mainly elf and human stats to represent the various units.

Still very early days-but here's what I have so far.

And the archer unit done. I'm working on the Guard again now, but I'm itching to get back to this army-so hopefully I'll have more updates to post in the not too distant future :)

Wow I love your army ! The ancient feeling deals great with the fantasy one. What is the brand of your humans ?

Thanks :) I was partly inspired by a arena scene in gladiator (African archers in gold armour riding chariots into battle :))

Yes, the archers are Wargames Factory. The chariots and eagle chariots are Games Workshop, with Wargames Factory Amazons stuck on (I backed the kickstarter so I have rather a lot of these), I have a block of Victrix Athenians for a good core of hoplites and the lion riders are Victrix riders with lions left over from the chariots as mounts.

The centaurs are made from Wargames Factory Amazons and horses stuck together.

Absolutely inspired work all round. I'm inlove with your lion riders and now I want to do something similar for my renaissance fantasy minis!

Finally got back to this project and made a bit of progress on it. Pictured are a skycutter chariot by GW (with Wargames Factory Amazon crew), Centaurs made from Wargames Factory Amazons and horses mashed together and a Greek heroine by Reaper miniatures.
A mix of Greek and African themes going on to create something new. It's a fantasy army so it's all good :)
