Best gaming location in Europe?
« on: November 15, 2016, 08:55:28 PM »
Let's say I move to someplace in Europe. Where's the best gaming scene? Antwerp sounds good because of Tin Soldiers and Crisis. Britain in general because of so many conventions (but where's the best place to live to hit the most?). Spain perhaps?

Thanks

Nottingham has to be the lead centre of the world.....

If This thread is to be believed, (Kingston upon) Hull is the place to be in regards to wargaming activity. ;)

Also; it's not too far away from Nottingham (the location of the Golden Throne) either...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Hamburg Germany. They have Great Gaming clubs in the area plus three Great wargaming Shows in and around Hamburg. And England is only 70 Minuten away by plane.

Even in the UK where there are lots of shows, and a fair few game shops, you would only get 1 or 2 local shows a year. You would still have to travel to other shows, probably 2-3hrs away, although distances in the UK are fairly short, travel times often aren't.

While I'm somewhat biased as the founder of the Tin Soldiers I'd say that aside from Antwerp (and of course you're very welcome at our 18 gaming tables every Friday from 07.00-01.00!!!- how's that for some less than subtle advertising- :) ) Hamburg would indeed seem a very good choice. Fantastic guys, beautiful city and Tactica is an absolute must. Perfect except for the temperature during the winter. Cold!

St Albans might be my choice if I ever went to live in the UK but that has to do with the TFL headquarters nearby.
If you like me are into Dark Ages wargaming then perhaps you might consider Evesham, home of Gripping Beast. They regularly host special events.

Nottinghamshire, particularly Newark. It's the classic Marshallian industrial district (or cluster) for the wargames industry, home to Games Workshop, Foundry, Warlord, North Star, Perry Miniatures and many others.

Both Partizans and Hammerhead every year, plus every event held at Warhammer World or Foundry (or Warlord Games, once their store/games centre opens).  The Newark Irregulars' calendar also lists a number of game specific competition days throughout the year.

London is an hour and a half away by train for Salute and SELWG.
Back from the dead, almost.
