Need printer recommendation for card stock buildings
« on: November 19, 2016, 04:31:32 PM »
My family and I recently completed a long distance move and are currently renting a place in our new city. I donated my terrain collection to my old gaming group and don't want to build anything substantial until we are more settled.

In the interim I've decided to delve into paper craft terrain as a cheap alternative to more permanent terrain. My current printer is only black and white and choked hard when I tried to print on 110lb cards stock. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good color printer that can handle card stock?

I had an Epson inkjet at one time that did exceptionally well at printing on heavy stock. It had a very flat paper path, running from back to front, and I printed successfully on paper up to 450gsm.

I can't remember the model number, but the key feature to look for in any printer is that flat paper feed. It's the roller feeds that have trouble with heavy stock.

Anything sold as a "photo" printer should do what you want. My old Canon Pixma did an excellent job, and had a selectable top feed that could print on things small as 3x5 index cards.

Yes, get a Canon Pixma, one in the 80 - 100 USD range. Make sure it has a second paper feed on top, and don't worry about getting second hand ink or cartridges. I never had any problems with mine until I had to print out a large number of (b&w) sheets hastily and ignored the low ink warning, resulting in the printer head to overheat (the ink has a secondary function as a cooling liquid) and destroyed it. Also, it's a good idea to clean the printer head after long periods of inactivity to get rid of dried ink.

The PaperWarriors ond WorldWorksGames forums have dedicated threads on this topic as well.
