Here are a couple more figures I've added to my little collection of mid-late C17th Exmoor.

Carver Doone, the thorough-going villain, is faced down by stout yeoman, John Ridd the elder.
The kid with the bucket of slops is obviously young John Ridd, who grows up to become the hero of the tale, and to woo the beautiful Lorna Doone and avenge his father...

Etc Etc

The figures are Bicorne, although I've used a Renegade horse - a bit more of a muscular looking hunter... Much more Carver...

Nice painting. I like the faces.
Although the eyes of the horse are a bit too humanlike for my taste. Horses have big brown eyes with only a small white rim. Maybe you can make the iris a bit bigger.

I have to say it again: I really like the way You paint Your miniatures Captain!
Excellent choice of colour and an overall brightness that is rarely seen in times of 'layering over-a-black-undercoat".

Plus: The setting of the photograph...

Very nice, up to your usual excelelnt standard and it good to see a trusty PMC building in the background. :)That guy seems to have to monoply on Tudor/Elizabethan buildings...

Thanks Nick. Yes, PMC and Conflix have pretty much carved up the mock Tudor market between them

You're not the first to object to my horses' eyes. I've tried several different ways, and all I can say is that this is about the best. If you actually paint the eye like a real horse - all dark brown / black, with just a highlight (because horses' eyes are very 'liquid' looking, so you have to highlight) - they come out looking like Demon horses...

Not sure what the answer is, but happy to see other people's methods.

That said, I'm not sure I agree that this...

...is a 'human-looking' eye.

I wouldn't worry about the "horse eyes". I can't paint eyes that well on anything.
