I dunno whether they ship stuff in or have casting rights, but it can't hurt to ask them about getting some in.

There are two problems with the figures: Some suffer from mold flattening and so are a bit thin. This is mostly the Dwarves from what I've seen so far and at that it's only really noticeable with some of the boots/shoes. Easily taken care of with some putty.

The other thing is that the models have alot of long thin weapons not supported by many connections on the model. The metal is flexible enough that you can right most of it without it seeming to lose strength. However, some of the swords on the orcs are really thin and might come off at the hilt.

Other than that I like quite a few of the Ghost Miniatures lines.

Thanks for the comments guys. @Mason: Yeah, they are really nice and oddly underappreciated. Just wish I could get around to finishing the last few I have.

Today is a bit of a narrower focus: Lord of the Rings


I'm kinda interested in the idea of LOTR or at least the Last Alliance taking place in the bronze age. There's not much in Middle Earth that necessarily ties it into dark ages Europe, so a thematic switch to say ancient Greece, India, or Babylon could be pretty cool. Might do a couple more theme pieces to go with this, but I don't know about how far I'd expand it. Wargames Factory Hoplite.


Denethor from GW. Simple and fast figure. It'll never win a competition though.


Splintered Light "Armored Ogres". Originally for 20mm I got these to go with the Viking/Asguard small orcs for eventual LOTR stuff. Done pretty quick with a strict color scheme as Mordor heavy infantry.


Shield Designs. I looked up orcish black speech on a wiki somewhere to do the runes. I don't remember what they're supposed to say though.


Finally a comparison shot, since there was some question about their size on these forums. L2R: 1/72 Plastic, SLM Armored Ogre, Asguard/Viking Forge Cave Orc, Denizen True 25mm, Essex 28mm Viking.

They are a good size for some of the book orcs, and would fit in with the smaller Viking Forge casts. However the proportions are slight owing to them being for a whole other scale. It might also be a problem that there are no missile troops or command, and the models don't really lend themselves to conversion.

Those Ogres should work really well with Asgard Orcs (which are another of my favourites and which I have a bunch of to get around to eventually....), I may have to steal that idea.
 

I really like the idea of a Bronze Age Middle Earth too.

Minot's Miniatures Deathdealer and a backdrop I painted to match. Notes on the figure; the saddle merges into the horse as it gets close to the shoulder, and the shield has a design picked out on it in dimples. Only time I've ever seen the latter. Strangely the figure has a huge beard and long hair, I think the sculptor got bored of doing chainmail, or maybe didn't want to deal with the undercut on the mould?

That's a very nice paint job. The long hair and beard may be to get around copyright issues. If you can still get a hold of one the Ral Partha Death-Dealer is a superb figure.

Thanks. I dunno about copyright, he came from an age when manufacturers gave much less of a damn about copyright. I'd love to have the whole catalog of Ral Partha. These days I'm a pretty opportunistic buyer, but sooner or later I'm going to have to dive into trading/ebay.

The sculpting seems a bit crude, or that could be due to the wearing of the mold.
The freehand on the shield is nice.
