A start to some village bases, first try doing snow, any suggestions on how to seal the base would be great

This looks very effective.

For sealing the base - I did a flocked mat using decorators caulking and impressing flock into it. I sprayed it with diluted PVA glue using a hand spray bottle from a gardening centre or wilko's. I also then used cheap hairspray as well. Belt and braces.

All I was looking to do was hold the flock in place, it didn't appear to darken it much although I didn't do a test piece so can't be sure.

The other alternative would be the army painter Matt varnish, a more expensive solution but probably better for you.

Please test first you don't want to ruin this nice piece.

I've used Woodland Scenics Scenic Cement http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/S191 on top of their snow with great effect.  Key is a fine spray and multiple light coats.

I had used hairspray first but found it was more uneven (once I found an unscented tin) as I had to spray from a longer distance due to the force from the tin.  Note a lot of cheap hairspray has PVA glue in it as the fixing agent!

In both cases you can end up with a mottled covering - I used a cheap perfume spray bottle like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5Pcs-Practical-Clear-50ml-Empty-Spray-Bottle-Plastic-Perfume-Atomizer-Travel-Use-/201742307572?hash=item2ef8c750f4:g:gWwAAOSwnH1WXsqP and binned it ad soon as it spluttered.
