Walking dead solo gaming blog ideas?
« on: December 09, 2016, 08:38:37 AM »
Hi guys, not commented in a while, work has been off the scale. my wife however has been a legend and got me this for xmas:

http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/the-walking-dead/product/the-walking-dead-all-out-war-give-me-everything-bundle.html

Mega right!?

Anyways. As time goes on I'm finding it harder and harder to get games in, luckily this system has a solo play.

I want to blog my solo campaign, painting and ideas for house rules etc. And play scenarios as close to the comic 'canon' as possible, but was wondering if anyone has any ideas to facilitate a more involved campaign. My current ideas are:

Start with Morgan and Duane. Surviving in Cythania. Scenario will end with them finding Rick.  From that point on I intend to map rick's travels up until Herschel's farm (as that is where the model range runs out of steam) But depending on fun and momentum; I may end up proxying beyond that.

Campaign mechanics I want to use:

Canon points: I think each character will have either a positive or negative modifier of sorts, depending if they are 'supposed' to live/ die at certain points. Making it harder to kill main characters for good. God forbid I loose the whole group in one swoop, would make for a shitty blog lol.

Human AI: obviously the walkers are AI, but there will be times where I have to engage with people/ enemies. Currently I envisage a 'chess' scenario, where I literally try to defeat myself, with no bias....Any ideas?

All in all I look forward to playing it, the game is smooth, with quite good tension and minor RP/ character dev.

But I am open to any house rules ideas anyone has come up with?

Jay.

Just ordered the core game and solo expansion myself so while I can't offer any ideas I look forward to following your progress.

Maybe borrow the rules for interacting with other groups from Two Hour Wargames 'All Things Zombie'?

I'd second CaptJake on the ATZ reaction tables.
I should be painting right now.

Thanks for the ideas. I have looked into ATZ, it looks like a great systems with a good following. Is there a quick ref sheet of these tables? As I don't particularly want to buy a full ruleset for 1 table. Plus if it is as good as people say, I don't want to feel like I have bought the wrong game lol.

If you go to the THW web page the 'Chain Reaction' rules are the basic vanilla system and are free. Look them over and see if these are what you are looking for.

Good luck!

I look forward to hearing more about this project.

As far as losing models that "shouldn't" die, you could just say they were hurt and apply a negative to them.  Say a -1 movement or loss of a die or -1 attack/defense symbol per roll.

That way they are still in the game for story purposes, but still suffer a negative effect because they went down.

Count me interested as well.

Alternatively, you could adapt the Dead Walk Again 'AI' for the walkers. Rules used to be freely available from the Yahoo group - I don't remember the address right now.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Will follow with interest as I'm thinking of doing something with Carol for solo play (or Morgan).

For solo playing, the absolutely GREAT Vampifan Blog has a truckload of material concerning solo ATZ games - the best info and inspiration of this kind available on the web IMHO.  ;)
