I don't know if Copplestone has any involvement in the rules of Future Wars.

I personally know nothing of Future Wars and the only thing I have heard is that the layout is so unclear that it's hard to read. As for the actual system I believe it's pretty simple, about the same level of complexity as Combat Zone or Kill Zone, but without the support that Combat Zone enjoys.

Chris Peers says in the intro that the rules were inspired by the Copplestone Casting figures and Mark shared someof his ideas with him but they are designed for any figures.
The rules use alot of the same mechanics as "At Close Quarters" (also written by Chris). I can't say that I found the layout unclear.

I've heard the same. Don't have a copy yet, but do have some of the other rules, and am good friends with Tim Greene, who co-wrote some of the books with Chris. The rumor I've heard is that the newer books are better laid out, etc. than the old ones, and one of the ones that I was specifically told had a better layout than, say CLA, was Future Wars.

I'd be real interested to hear how they play, if anybody knows. It's a set that interests me, particularly if I can use it for this Road Warrior bug I've caught lately.

Played a 4-way Combat Zone last night - 2 adults vs two 'kids' (11 years old) and I refereed.

Adults were cops sent in to clean up the neighbourhood.  Kids had two gangs armed with shotguns and handguns.

Rules played quite well (although some disputes about LOS etc.).

Only bit which was really bad was the grenades rule - no idea on how far you could throw them - only 25% chance to hit the right area and the scatter was ludicrous (one cop almost blew himself up as the scatter took it neatly back to just in front of him).

BUT...loads of fun.  Lots of jumping over fences, pot-shots etc. Soon learned that anyone in the open died very quickly and messily.

Final Score : Cops 10, Gangers 3.

I believe you can throw grenades 15cm (it's in the grenade rules somewhere but hard to spot), I also believe a grenade will never scatter more than half the distance thrown.

We didn't spot the 15cm - we played 20cm (same range as for shotgun).

Th player aimed short on the assumption that it would scatter (never a good start!) and it did - back towards him. But we did spot the 1/2 distance thrown rule but it was still close!

We were thinking of changing it to hit on 1-4 on a d6 with an 8 scatter (N,S,E,W, NW, SE, SW and NE) for 1-2 cm (elite), 1-4 (standard) and 1-6 (green) based on general accuracy with (say) throwing a tennis ball.  Unless you are completely crap at sports, you will generally get within a few feet of a target you're throwing a ball at - so why when throwing a grenade would you miss by many yards?

But we'd have to playtest to see if it doesn't unbalance the game.
