Lovely figs, ace painting, and an excellent choice for wood elves.
Thanks for sharing!

"Beware the wrath of the trees!!!"

...And the painting continues apace!! Here's the Treeman, a classic early 90s GW model. It's been painted with my usual 'dip and highlight' technique, although I have used an extra 3rd highlight on the dark brown and grey sections. In Dragon Rampant, it'll be a Greater Warbeast!

Next up in a few weeks, a unit of archers!

Ah the old "Saturday Night Fever" treeman - a classic! Lovely paintjob on him.

Late to the party here, but have spotted this since I started playing DR. These are smashing, Andy. Particularly like the command figure with hawk. Do you think these are taking less time than your classic Arthurians?

Thanks very much, James. They are fun to paint! As for speed of painting, they vary. The armoured spearmen were pretty quick, but I'm in the middle of Scarloc's archers now and they are taking ages - lots more detail on them. The dip and highlight technique is good and pretty speedy, but these guys are getting 2 highlights, so that slows it down. Possibly a bit quicker than the Arthurians due to less fiddly shield designs and fewer models with fancy tunic decorations. Also, block base coating on white undercoat is easier and quicker than on black, especially with my dodgy eyesight.

Evening all! I've been doing some more painting! Yes, I'm really on a roll here! Here are the first 12 of Scarloc's Wood Elf Archers. Lovely, lovely models - the best Elf archer models ever...possibly the best Elf models ever (well, I think so anyway!!)
Painted as the rest of the army. I decided I wanted to give them an irregular look, so chose non-uniformed (varied poses) and I gave them a bunch of shields from my Dark Ages bits box - Pictish and Early Saxon bucklers, done in the terracotta and ochre scheme that the rest of the army has.

Finally, here's a picture of the 36pt Dragon Rampant war band I'm using at the local club on Monday evening:

Prince and bodyguard (Elite Foot Reduced model unit - Venomous - 9pts)
Guard Infantry (Elite Foot - 6pts)
Spear Guardians (Heavy Foot - 4pts)
Archer Guardians (Light Missiles - Sharpshooter; Invisibility - 9pts)
Guardian of the Glade - Treeman (Greater Warbeast - Cunning 8pts)

Next up, probably some more knights, although the Chariot is looking very tempting...

Just lovely!

Wood Elves, especially these vintages, were the first 'army' I ever collected.

Just fantastic models, and like the poster above, it also reminds me of those McVey Wood Elves (which is the biggest reason I got into them too)

I sold that army off (and all those lovely Treemen!) years ago, but I think I still have an unfinished Wood Elf Chariot, and a unit of the classic Wardancers stored away somewhere.

I gotta dig them out now....Thanks for the inspiration!!

Spot on Andy. Lovely work.  :D

Many a weekend from my youth would my 42 wood elves take on the immeasurable plastic skeleton horde of my friend across the field of battle. Great memories.  :)
Ray.

Hi,

Really a great looking warband.

Well done.

Which knight and chariot you'll paint? Do you win your game?

Great to see a group shot, the army is coming along nicely! I agree with you on Scarloc's archers, some of the best GW wood elves ever produced.

You should totally use these for Oathmark. Which red and yellow did you use for the shields?
