A surprise result!b o_o  The Egyptian Infantry won the melee and ended up routing the Emir Guard unit.  Fantastic work again by another Egyptian unit.  It may be that the British get a downgrade from Veteran status and the Egyptians get a well-deserved upgrade for the next game!  ;)

The OC of El-Biir, having declined the advice to send out work parties, and to examine the local area, failed to notice a handy ladder propped against one of the outbuildings.  The Dervishes, however, did not miss this gift…  Here the second unit of Emir Guard Infantry move past the manned building with the ladder, with the aim of getting to the building evacuated by the hungover sailors.  The race is on…

I shall break for now and post the rest of the pictures of this battle later today.

This looks a fantastic game! :D I've had several very enjoyable games with TMWWBK already myself, it's a fun and flexible set of rules. I'm looking forward to the rest of the photos.

Wonderful-looking game, gorgeous table, and very nicely painted units !!

I really like the little 'touches' you added for additional tension.

The premise is clever, but I have ridden that railway line from Wadi Halfa to Khartoum (on the roof of a carriage) back in '75, and you might be interested to know that there is NO wet season in northern Sudan.  They get the 'very dry' season and the 'even drier' season.

Many kudos to your fine game and apparently even finer gamers !!

The Emir Guard unit on the rooftop that the sailors vacated.  The find of the ladder certainly helped them in this regard, but they also 'helped themselves' by grasping the opportunity to attack the building as soon as possible.

The unit consolidates its position on the roof...

The Emir Guard unit comes down from the roof into the compound, and enters into melee with the naval infantry.  Unfortunately for the Emir Guard they failed to realise that they had come between the sailors and their rum barrels, which were stored in the ground floor… the sailors flew into a rage and beat the Emir Guard.   o_o  The moral of the story is not to get between a sailor and his rum ration!

While the melee continues in the courtyard, the Hadendowa outside move towards the ladder.

The naval infantry, having won the melee inside the compound - and secured their rum ration - remount the roof and start to fire with some effect onto the advancing Mahdists.

The Egyptian unit on this roof performed very well throughout the entire battle, pouring effective fire into many Mahdist units, despite being rated as 'poor shots'.  It was only in the last couple of turns of the battle that they became pinned and fell back from the roof.  They were strong contenders for 'unit of the game'.

The Gatling gun has just been re-crewed, however they became pinned again before they could fire!

With the Egyptian Infantry at last driven from the roof, and the RN Infantry once again feeling ill from their hangovers (pinned AGAIN!), the GPO Rifles mount the roof and soon let the Dervishes know the foolishness of approaching too closely...

Beja rifles, having satisfied themselves that the Relief Column were seen off, move to the large rocky hill and start to snipe at the defenders of El-Biir.

Mr Kipling, the correspondent from The Morning Post.  If he was next to a unit leader, that unit received a bonus of 1 for morale tests.
