Patatas Libre!
« on: January 05, 2017, 06:36:23 PM »
I'm not a fan of the modern era for gaming, it's more an interest for my nephew who recently bought a .... few... pounds of 20mm modern. Modern is really not my taste nor 20mm, but I helped him to find a rule that could suit his needs: solo play, some role play flavour, campaign etc. Simple. Discovered Five Core for him, bought it for me. After a quick read of the Imagi-nation add-on and a test game, a surprise awaited me in the postbox: a nearly complete range of AK47 from Monsieur Peter Cochon. Damn me! I mainly have fantasy scenery, nothing for modern urban fights.
Draw some basic shapes in 3D and let die one printer (printer head almost on fire). Use the remaining printer to produce an ambitious real estate complex:

The fictive country where the battle will occur is the Patatas, neighboring Angola, Brazil and Brunei, on the Caspian Sea coast.
Capital: Misconcepcao.
Resource: Oil
Factions:
* Governement forces of the Popular Oligarchic Organisation, leaded by the self-elected life president Aristide Dujambon
* Al Charabia, a religious zealot group believing in "la Scoumoune" and leaded by Abdul Al Azred
* Los Patateros, a capital-marxist movement leaded by the charismatic El Che Patatras

An exclusive and official picture of Aristide Dujambon and his wife LaBaitch:

Los Patateros on the painting bench:

.....and presented in Cinemascope, the stage of this week-end film: The Last Train for Kartengra. Los Patateros ambushing a governement train, in hope for a generous loot of TV, radios and smartphones.

Let's give a try in modern era, in a realistic setup and even more realistic geography  :D

Patatas Libre! - Last Train to Kartengra
« Reply #6 on: January 08, 2017, 04:47:15 PM »
A fragmentary article describe this beautiful country of Patatas, more will be added as analysts and searchers are studying the geopolitical aspect of the things... :? Shameless link to the page, for science purpose/background (and a beautiful map of an astonishing accuracy):
https://teardropworlds.wordpress.com/birth-of-a-nation-2/

Kartengra is a small town sitting near the junction of Brasil and Angola. The Capital-Marxist rebellion (Los Patateros)  is very active in the county and clashes occurs nearly each week. The government sends a reinforcement to Kartengra: an armoured vehicle! This should assure the supremacy of the loyalists troops of the P.O.O. (Popular Oligarchic Organisation). But the rebellion is well informed, and send specialists. Mission: destroy the armoured vehicle, and loot the train. The train must cross a construction site between two tunnels, an obvious opportunity for an ambush.

An helicopter is hijacked by the Patateros and a squad is dropped near the railway

A support team with a LMG come unnoticed in a utility van, perfect camouflage in a work site.

Schedules of public transportation are very random in Patatas but the train is on time. A mobile toilet is used to stop the POO's convoy:

The POO's soldiers immediately know that sh*t hit the fan! They quickly exit their wagon and take position. Responsible for the convoy, Caporal Manioc must alert Kartengra as soon as possible while his men secure the area. Manioc can flee with one of the vehicle parked on the site or try to persuade the helicopter's pilot to help him.

Los Patateros are equiped with anti-tank weapons and try to destroy the armoured vehicle, but the weapon have a failure and can no longer be used.

The opponents are facing and a deadly tennis game begin: bullets fly from one party to other. Los Patateros lose their LMG in an infortunate random event, for the rest of the game, but they manage to clean some POO's fighters. A rebel place an explosive charge on the armoured vehicle. Things become hot, the adversaries are blocked by supressive fire.

Caporal Manioc is knocked down by a bullet, could he survive and recover from his light wound? Let's hope so.
Following turn, Manioc obtain a six to recover: Dead. The government's force have lost their leader.

Things could not be worst for the POO: Kabooom! Things could be better for Los Patateros: the demolition specialist is killed by a shrapnel, being just at the blast limit.

The POO escape by the tunnel where they come from, mission totally failed. Los Patateros only half win: they forget to search and loot the train.

*End of this first venture in modern time.*

Best regards

I'm going to need a SWAT team ready to mobilise, street level maps covering all of Florida, a pot of coffee, twelve Jammie Dodgers and a Fez!

Kartengra, a quiet town
« Reply #8 on: January 13, 2017, 09:22:08 PM »
...meanwhile in Kartengra, the french soldiers of the Mouvement International de Liberation Français (MILF) are waiting for an armoured vehicle coming by train... The railway station is very busy

Work activities are on the side of the city, mainly transport and mechanical workshops

The town itself is very quiet, even for a market day

Kartengra is just another boring small town like thousands of other, what could happen in such a middle of nowhere of no strategic importance? Answer this week, maybe...

Cheers

I like your story.
Excellent terrain.
It looks like Kartengra is the garden spot of the country. ;)
