Slowly moving along.

Tried several different cardboard triangles until I was happy with the size and shape (making sure it would fit into my storage solution for it when it was finished):

Size is about 110mm x 330mm x 315mm. Spent the last few days in my free time cutting various coffee stirrers into various lenghs (normal sized one and the long skinny ones) and then "weathering" them with a knife and file. Knife to chamfer the edges and file to wear the short ends. Then used the shape I had decided on as a guide, gluing the stirrers in a random, goblin like fashion:

After a while I had finished the left and right side, with enough stirrers left over for the front triangle (to be built near the end when I've painted the sides):

Next stage is to tie bits of nylon string around some of the beams, then cover them in enough super glue for SI to be proud of.

Over the weekend I hope to start and maybe finish the sculpting of the pig.

Finished sculpting the pig this morning.

Glued down the body and legs:

Used Green Stuff to fill the gap between the legs and between the belly and the rocket:

Started to sculpt the bulging eyes, but I realised he was smiling too much (and I don't like cruelty to animals, this dude's a willing pilot), so the bulging eyes morphed into goggles:

Finally, I had a little Green Stuff left over so I gave him a little tuft of hair (blame it on current events that was on in the background):

I think I need to name him - I'll call him Trumper, the Hogfather's fifth pig. Realise now I could've built a flying sleigh for this Build Something. Dammit!

Painting-wise I think I'll go with black and pink to hide some of the sculpting (I only use Green Stuff to fill gaps, etc) and the tuft will be a bright orange ;)

Still undecided on including a rider, and if so who that will be (was going to convert a goblin, but might make it a snotling instead).

To be accurate to his, um, namesake, shouldn't Trumper be orange with dyed-blonde hair? Oh, and white rings around his eyes for some reason, but the goggles might hide that.

Looks great, the proper goblin engineering of the launch ramp is awesome.

Thanks guys. Yeah - blonde tuft, but I can't bring myself to paint an orange pig.

The tower (if I get it done) will have aerials/flags and act as an observation post. Following my theme they'll probably be pulled from this Google images search:
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=soviet+christmas+rocket&hl=en&biw=2144&bih=1059&site=webhp&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiIyK2gstLRAhUJw7wKHXyaBKsQ_AUIBigB

Also, the rocket will not be artillery now, but in game I'll use it as an observation aircraft of sorts. I mainly blame DeafNala for this craziness.

Those goggles are and genius touch! lol The pig also has a great contented look now as well! Was the card just for size before? I take it that won't be used anymore?

Correct - just for determining the overall size and angles (it was my third or fourth cut out).

Original idea was having the hypotenuse as the base, but after playing around it looks better this way. The sides will also be splayed out so an isosceles triangle will be created on the front facing.

The goggles look great, keep going, I really want to see this once it's painted up, in all its glory.

Built the base for it this evening. Slowly getting there.

Left hand side:

Right hand side:

The coffee stirrers are there as height guides for when I plaster, and for the frame to have somewhere to rest on/glue to the base to. The card box will be the base for the detachable tower/flag pole/observation post. The pig rocket in the background has received fins and a nose cone.

Close up of the rocket:

Might still add some Green Stuff to fill joins/add rivets. Not sure yet. Still undecided on extra riders. Thinking of two snotlings to be like these guys:

Base with plaster:

(Really not exciting.)

Decided to add a smoke trail to the rocket:

Next step is the Green Stuff to the rocket, cover the smoke trail with PVA so I can paint it and start building the tower. Painting will probably start mid week. So glad there's a 4 day weekend coming up!
