 I make wooden toy soldiers and ships in different scales depending on how they are to be played with. Here's a couple of shots of my 54mm "imaginations" troops based upon Wars of Spanish succession period.

Delightful - the painting (those faces) is top notch.

Humakt-  Actually they are quite easy to paint, each one taking between 20 min to an hour, not like  a regular miniature.
As to cutting, I use my laser cutter, so that's pretty quick as well. This is what they look like unpainted, and then variations on a theme.
