I can't help myself. I think I will name this one "The Hammer of Thor".

May I suggest [wiki]Mjolnir[/wiki]or Mjölnir since that is what the hammer is really called? Norse names are quite common on Swedish warships. I served on a Norwegian made patrol boat called 'Vidar'. The others three in the division were called Hugin, Munin (after the ravens of Odin) and Vale.

if you are considering a sistership ;) Gungnir is a good name. It is the spear of Odin the Allfather, which never misses its target.

I was planning on that, but only after I tracked down the proper spelling. I have been trying to find something associated with Sif to use as the name on the accompanying destroyer, but haven't gotten thorough on that yet. How does the Norwegian navy label ships - do they use HMS for His Majesty's Ship, or something different?

HMS would probably be appropriate, given the union (Hans Majestäts Skepp). It would possibly be HSNoMS or HSNoMM (His Swedish and Norwegian Majesty's Ship/Marine). King at this time would be Oscar II of the Bernadotte dynasty.

Oh and if you are having smaller crafts swarming around, I think Hugin and Munin would be perfect. As I said those were the raven's of Odin. Or possibly Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr, which are the billygoats pullimg the warwagon of Thor.

What's the brand of mounted saw you use for your cuts? Forgot to ask that earlier.
And nice job, by the way. Your work is motivating, and it begs the question: what rules do you use, and where do you game? We don't have a concerted interest in VSF here in the DFW metroplex - that I know of - and it's a shame.

One miniature is too many, and a thousand are not enough...

If you opt for sinister Scandinavian scientific experiments (after all Nobel must have been doing something when he wasn't inventing explosives) you could mount your Valkyrie on more or less anything winged.
How about pteranodons ?
Souvenir of the lost world expedition perhaps, or salvaged from the journey to the centre of the earth (which after all set off from Iceland).

If the mount has rivets, it's clockwork or steam powered, if not it's a genetic modification.

For names on the smaller one, if the carrier is Mjollnir, might the small escorts perhaps be one of the dwarfs ? Brokk or Sindri perhaps ?

Just a Craftsman 16" scroll saw - I actually had to go look at it. I can never remeber what the damn things are called, or what brand I have, so I went out in the garage and looked at it.

And I don't game with it - I don't have any friendly players in the area that do VSF that I know of. I am going to start visiting Warren Bruhn's group once a month, but they seem to concentrate on historicals, not VSF. I ahven't been talking to them much or for long, so I could be completely wrong. The crowd here in Portland Oregon tends to Warhammer and Warmachine, with a little Flames of War thrown in.

I want them to be robotic in nature, and preferably look technologically on par with this:

It's a Reaper Golem I painted some years ago, and am going to repurpose to my Norwegian forces, maybe even drill out his hand so that he holds a Norwegian flag.

And I decided on the names - weapons of the Gods it is. The Carrier will be the HMS Gungnir, and be accompanied by the HMS Mjollnir. The hammer name is more appropriate to the craft with the downward pointing cannon that has (to scale) an 18" bore. That is some boomstick.

That's an awesome looking golem.

At least we know what we are aiming for now.

I'll see if anything comes to mind.

Perhaps something clunky - like an early monoplane (thinking on the lines of one with a deflector propellor, but chunkier than the Morane saulnier).

Have you looked at Fiddlers Green to see if they have any suitable designs ?

https://www.fiddlersgreen.net/shop/category/name/Early+Flying+Machines.html

I'm not into card modelling personally, but you might see a design that is available as a plastic kit.

Would something like batman's batwing look too gothic ?

I think I am trying for slightly less sizable than most early flyers - mayhap the early equivalent of an ultralight, or such. I have built 'hangars' to attach to the bottm of the 'nef - I'll get a photo up later today when I have them mounted.

Promised photos of underside "hangars". With Pulp Figures Rocket Ranger with flag for reference.

I am going to glue some form of doors onto them, so that my people can be suiting up in the hangars, and then go out the front.

Looking great. For winged troops, how about basing off GW Birdmen of Catrazza?
http://www.grafika.cytadela.pl/articles/718r.jpg

I believe they've been dropped now, but they turn up on ebay periodically.

The plastic thing on the back, the silver and yellow one. What is it from? Looks very familiar for some reason.

Had missed this question - that is a rebel troop carrier from the Star Wars collectible miniatures game.

Jesus, that's big.  As an aside, I love that you have the rocketeer guy mounted at an angle.  I never would have thought of that.

Great looking ship. :-*
Huge. :o
I may have missed it earlier in the thread but what exactly is the aircraft carrier going to carry. Is it Rocket troops?

I have not decided yet. I am trying to find winged troops that look VSFish, but are not those (not to my tastes) Prussians from Eureka. Jet packs are little too 30's or 40's to me. I may start scratchbuilding one man balloons or ultralights for them.
